      Awake for 25 hours

Well, as a result of new years related festivities, i have, at the time of this posting, been awake for twenty-five hours. i am looking forward to going to sleep early tonight, and waking up late tomorrow morning.

does anybody know if staying up through an entire night causes sleep to come easier, or make it easier to do WILD or dream more, or anything like that? i think ive read somewhere that it is helpful to have irregular, but still full sleep cycles.

basically, i have been up for twenty five hours straight, and am wondering if i can use it to my advantage tonight in dreaming. any advice or ideas are welcome.
All I know is that i don't know nothing.

Well, I think the cycle goes through about 3 times during sleep (just guessing)...And each cycle gets longer and longer- so, it's probably most likely the last dream you get is going to be the longest, and as a result gives you more time to mess about in your lucid dream/have a lucid dream.

I read that somewhere, but I don't remember where.

If you're gonna sleep for a very long time, great. Nice, long dreams towards the end of your sleep, as these sleep cycles (apparently) get longer each time.

the longest I have stayed awake is around 36 hours I think I know others that have stayed awake longer, but thats as long as I made it, you start to halucinate, dream and reality mix sorta, its not as bad as my dreams, but it does mess with your head. and I found that you only sleep about 6 hours after that and feel refreshed and your like WTF? I should still be sleepin this makes nos ense.. but there you are awake and stuff...
      mm sleepies.

The longest I've gone without sleep was... I don't know... five days? Six days? I can't remember. Apparently after a couple of days my body started doing its own thing and my mind wasn't even there. I don't remember much about that time other than I really hurt a couple of my friends and I drew some pretty fucked up artwork.

I am a awake more than 20 hours every day...few times i was awake 40 hours but only one time 56...don't try it...you will act like you are in a dream that you don't have control of,but you shuld meet my brother...He is worser than me.
When I stay up long I have a little chance to Lucid dream...and sometimes I know that I am awake but can't do anything, like I am out of power.
I have better Lucid when I sleep normal.

Longest I've been awake was like 30 hours or so... but it was a special occasion - new year party. I remember falling asleep and being realy sleepy for a long time. I woke up at 3.30 at night and couldnt fall asleep for the rest of the night. Not to mention that i dont remember any dreams from that night - just sleeping like dead..
It really screws your sleeping pattern with little benefit.

I heard lack of sleep is unhealthy and makes you suseptable to getting sick and all this other stuff.
      Now that I'm done scolding....

The longest I stayed awake was the regular 36 hours. I felt the same, no wierd trips or anything. Sleepy, but fine.
Here's a better question, how long have you ever slept at once?
I don't think I've ever slept more than 24 and that was because I was sick.

All these stories make me want to try staying up and see if I can get some nice, long dreams out of it.

DON'T DRIVE when you have been awake rediculously long spans of time. When I was in the radio business, I had to do an overnight shift, plus a big chunk of the morning show AFTER being at school all day. When driving the 25 mile trip home, I dozed off behind the wheel for just a split second and when I snapped to, there was a big bull in the middle of the road that had gotten loose from a pasture. I almost hit him. That is about the time I let 'em have their DJ job.

It was KKMY radio in Beaumont. 104.5 mHz FM. We had big fancy offices in downtown Beaumont, but the transmitter facility and studio were in a shack out in the woods in Mauriceville. It was a big station...100,000 watts, but I doubt it made it up to Tyler. I live near Nacogdoches now and can't pick it up. Thats OK though....there's a good variety of stations around here....not just those that say,"We gots both kind of music...country.....and western." KKMY was old rock and roll.

I shall now pour my fountain of "I read this somewhere" knowledge into the topic

A group of scientists did an experiment to see the effects of being awake for a long time. For the first day, the person was fine and happy. After 2 weeks of being awake, they couldn't think, thought everybody was plotting to kill him, and locked himself in the toliet in order to get some sleep.

He woke up the next day feeling a bit better- the scientists thanked him and gave him some hot chocolate. He wondered why on earth he thought they were enemies of his.

Certainly do not. The person involved in the 2-week no sleep experiment could not even play checkers after being awake for a few days. And it's stuipd, anyway

I heard lack of sleep is unhealthy and makes you suseptable to getting sick and all this other stuff. [/b]
Our germ fighting abilites are at the top of their ability every week. Not sleeping will make you more suspectible to becoming unhealthy/ill.

You are also more likely to die during the early hours of the morning, and undoubtely staying awake is more likely to bring on heart attacks etc. during this time.

I am a awake more than 20 hours every day[/b]
Er, for me I am awake *counts* 15 hours each day, usually. I get up at lunchtime, though.

Today, everything was fine. Until roundabout, quarter to nine, I suddenly found myself in a bind. Was it something I said? Something I read an manifested that's getting you down.[/b]

      sleep deprivation and such

I once challenged my friend to a stay-awake competition. I won by making it to 64 solid hours. It definately messed with me emotionally. Haha. I slept like 14 hours striaght after that. When I am severely sleep deprived, I usually remember having had really crazy dreams but I can't seem to remember much of any of them. I have found that i have the highest frequency of lucid dreams when I am on a pretty normal sleep cycle. Yeah, sleep deprivation is not very good for you. Physically, mentally, emotionally. And I agree with never ever driving when you're really sleep deprived. The longer you stay up, the more it feels like a dream or that you're on drugs. I usually audially hallucinate somewhere between 36 and 40 hours. And nothing feels very real. Things around you seem to start passing you by and memory gets tangeled. I find myself much more likely to sing and laugh a lot in public. Although I have to say, i've had some pretty damned interesting thoughts when sleep deprived too.

Maaan, do I feel like the oddball. Not only am I posting in an 8-year-dead thread, I've also been awake for 73 hours and don't feel weird at all.
I mean, really... I just got bored after being up all day and night one time doing homework and I thought "how long CAN you stay awake, Elliot?"
Skip to now, and... my muscles feel sore, but other than that I don't feel any different than when I first woke up.

      Go figure.
Try to imagine a life without timekeeping. You probably can’t. You know the month, the year, the day of the week; you have a schedule, a calendar... Yet all around you, timekeeping is ignored. Birds are not late. A dog does not check its watch. Deer do not fret over passing birthdays. Man alone measures time. Man alone chimes the hour. And, because of this, man alone suffers a paralyzing fear that no other creature endures.
A fear of time running out.
