NEW COLOR in dreams

dude, i saw a video of the movie waking life on you tube and someone posted that is posible to see totally different unknown color something really new dude, i gotta try this!! anyone who has experienced this please post.

No, but sounds very far fetched, could your midn create somthing that visually it cant imagine in a dream? try imagining a new colour, can you do it? even so i will enjoy trying this as, when lucid dreaming happens ANYTHING is possible. goodluck

It's hard to imagine but I think its possible. I had a dream awhile back (maybe my 1st post?) about trying to fly to the moon, I didn't make it but the atmosphere was some of the most beautiful colors I'd ever seen. I've heard of people having 360 vision in dreams and I find that hard to imagine. The mind is a crazy device, nothings impossible.

People on DreamViews have claimed, that they've seen new colours. I think it's possible, since the reason we can't see other colours is because of the limits of our eyes, not our brain. It should be possible.

I have seen some beautiful and amazing colours in dreams but I don't think I have seen a new colour. The closest thing would have been when I tried to increase the vividness in colour using just my mind. All the colours became really vibrant and really lit up, like they were glowing.

You're forgetting here that dreams are a composite of our preexisting memories. Someone born blind can NOT *see* in their dreams. You are suggesting (Marvo) that a blind person might be able to see in their dreams (considering their blindness comes from an eye defect). Which is untrue. Let me tell you my theory as to why people say they've seen new colors before.... A) Your mind is quite powerful. It can erase your dreams in a second, as well as modify them. When you wake up, your mind makes you think that you had seen a new color. B) As with the above, your mind affects the dream. Instead of actually seeing a new color, you see a regular color and your mind makes you think you are seeing a new one. C) A very bright or vivid color. Many people think this is a "new" color. Furthermore, when this very bright vivid color is on something that generally either does not have that color, or has that color but is not as bright, people say it is a "new color."

Ataraxis, if the brain makes you think you saw another colour, didn't you then see another colour? The impression is more important than what happened. Also, what if we actually see another colour all the time, but it's so weak that we don't realise it? It is overlayed by all the other colours. It's a silly thought, but what if our brain could take this colour and enhance the vividness of it? It's very unlikely, but possible.

The actual wavelength of the light hitting our eyes and the color of things are two entiretly different concepts. The concept of "color" does not only contain the actual wavelength of the light, but also what we associate with that color, like things that typically has this color, the name for the color, emotions associated with that color, and blah blah. The way we categorize colors is also very culturally dependent, it is not "nature given" that colors should be divided in exactly those categories that we use, like green, blue, red, pink, etc. In other cultures there have been examples of people having the same name for colors that we would describe as different colors, and having entiretly different names for colors that we would only describe as nuances of the same color. I suppose my point is that if someone claims he has seen a new color he might not neccescarily be seeing a new wavelength of light, he might merely be seeing a new "label", a new "concept" for a color that doesn't fit in with the others. Hard to explain but I hope you get the point.

Can you perceive a variation of the primary scope of colors that our eyes are made for, Sure. A new color? I guess if you wanted to call a color you saw surgery red then it may be a slight change in hue and tone from the other thousands of reds. To see outside the spectrum of red orange yellow green blue indigo and violet I don't see as valid.

Hey guys think of this: there may be an infinite number of primary colors. To make this easier to understand i'll just call them color 1,2,3,4.... Heres the concept. My red is color 1,my blue is color 2 and my yellow is color 3. Now lets say your red is color 4, blue is color 7 and yellow is color 1. We both go through our lives thinking we see the same thing because thats the only thing we know as red and you can't describe a color other then the connections you make throughout your life. Now, in a dream I might see color 4 when my eyes only see 1,2 and 3. Viola "outside spectrum" color. Theres no proof whatsoever that other colors are impossible. Although, I agree that most other color experiences are most likely not what they seem, its a possibility.
