Just a little something I am a little unclear on, even though I'm not bad at LDing now and have been 'into' it for a good while.
I read people talking about just how realistic their LD's seem to be, is this visually? Because for me, it's more of an emotion and touching/feeling thing. Even though in some minor cases I remember everything being perfect. When I think about it, my dream visuals are pretty crap - BUT I want to change this. Maybe they are pretty visual at the time (they have to be at least a little bit to convince me of reality don't they?) -- but I was thinking that the reason I still think they were foggy is my memory of the dream, which makes sense to me.
Please, someone clear this up for me.

Hmm...maybe it's all down to a case of observation of your surroundings in waking life.
Do you tend to be a great observer of things, like, for example, the way bricks make up a house, or the shape of a leaf on a particular tree or plant?
I always have been, so therefore, i usually realise i'm dreaming when things look 'too' real, if you know what i mean.
Maybe you could try that...really study the world around you as you are going about your daily life...ask yourself if you could possibly be dreaming at this moment, and give good solid reasons to prove yourself awake.
That might improve your dream visuals...
someone also said dream spinning can help, but i've never found it works.
Or you could try rubbing your hands together, that's supposed to increase realism...it's worked for me a couple of times.
Hope this helps!

totally going off of what irish said. Whatever your mind creates for you in your dream world is what is going to be there. You have to have a great grasp on reality in the waking world to have a totally clear picture in your dream world. If you think in your head right now about a certain place and recall as many details as you can, that is what is going to come out in your dream. If something is fuzzy in your dream, you might try checking in out in your waking state to make it more clear in your next dream. It would be a pretty fun project. See how realistic you can make your dream world. Seems like it would be a great way to expand your imagination.

I have had experiences with both. My first lucid dreams were more tuned to emotional and physical sensations — heightened hearing, touch, smell — and the visual aspect was very normal and serene. It really was like I was just awake in my dream. There was nothing spectacular visually but the experiences were intense nontheless.
But as I began to delve deeper into the realm of these dreams and feel more comfortable with my dream self, I began to learn to control the visual aspect of my dreams. This opened a whole new door and the visuals became more precise and colorful. I only suggest that you stick with it and the more you lucid dream, the more control you will gain, and hopefully the more intense your visual experiences will become.
Namaste and good luck.

Thanks for all the replies. I am actually quite a visual person, because I am involved in art etc. I'm gonna try some methods to improve the vividness of my surroundings in the dreamworld.. hopefully I wont forget, as I feel I'm missing out big time.
Thanks again.

This is mostly what everyone has said already, but here's an example of what you might do... I remember reading about that technique here on DV, and it works for improving any of the senses in your dreamworld.
With me, it was the opposite. I wanted to feel things more... I wanted to feel the wind blowing on my face when I took off flying, so I started paying very close attention to how different objects felt when I picked them up. I would take a few seconds to analyze the texture, weight, temperature. The same if I was driving down the road with the windows opened... I tried to analyze every little bit of how that wind felt. A couple of days later I had a lucid dream where I flew around a little bit and voi-la, I could feel the wind blowing on my face for the first time.
Since you aren't very happy with your visuals, try paying more attention to the visual details of everything in real life. Whenever you have some free time, pick up an object or look at something and analyze it for a few seconds... if its a plant, look at every little detail, how it all connects, the color, the stems, the little tiny hairs on the stems, maybe a tiny bug that's walking on the plant. Analyze it to see all the little details that you wouldn't notice otherwise. Then if you have an LD, try doing the same thing... just pick up (or conjure up) an object and analyze it for a bit... just don't concentrate too hard to where everything starts fading and you wake up (yeah, I've done that once).
Within a week your dreams should already start getting a little more vivid. Have fun... :bigteeth:
