My brain CONSTANTLY wanders from thought to thought, and as much as people say "Don't let it!" it does.

Am I cursed with a brain that wonders too much? lol

Are there any methods to over-coming this? My first thought was ritalin, but any drug would probably mess with stuff. ( I used to be ADHD)

Any insight would be great, especially when it comes to sleeping now... I used to pass out almost on contact with the bed, but now that I'm working on this, my brain is active while laying down... not just about waiting for a dream, but about everything. >_<

(Then again, I AM changing up my sleeping patterns atm from 2am ish bedtime to like... 9pm ish bedtime >_<)

practice. sit down at a table and individually place a pile of paper clips back into their box, then individually take them out again and repeat. do this for 10 minutes. build discipline. sit in a chair and do nothing for 5 minutes, just for the hell of it. you can think of harder ones once you do those and are satisfied with the results.

Meditation can help build your concentration if your into doing that kind of thing. Sometimes it is nice to just sit there, not do much and it helps build your awareness which helps with LDing. I have heard also about just concentrating on a flame of a candle and nothing else in a dark room for a time and slowly build it up, so you can concentrate on the candle until it melts away. - but I don't think you would be into doing that lol.

I currently meditate, using audio from the likes of Kitaro etc.

I never really do it quietly, mind you I used the Brainwave Generator last night for it. It's whenever I get down to trying to get to sleep etc. that I start focusing on stuff, cuz I'm trying to remind myself to LD. Once I remind myself, my brain kind of hits a path of thought, and keeps going. >_<

I will try and do the paper clip type stuff though, might make thoughts easier to relinquish.

OH and on topof that, often times (when meditating too ) my eyes flicker... like I have them closed (not too tight) but because they aren't too tight, they try and blink for some reason, which lifts the lid sometimes just enough to let some images in... which distracts me cuz I think "Why do I blink like that? Damnit, I have to start over now... or do I? Nah, let's just keep going..."

:'(

I attended a meditation seminar once when I was 16. The speaker spoke of different things such as the stages of conciousness and so on. He had a great visualization technique that I would like to share because it works very well.

Imagine a lotus blossom underwater. The blossom waves under tranquil clear blue warm water. When you have a thought that distracts you simply imagine a bubble forming in the center of the blossom and enveloping the thought. Then the bubble rises to the surface and above your field of view (and thus "out of sight, out of mind"). Simply repeat this all the while imagining the clear warm water and the lotus blossom waving gently on the bottom of the shallow seabed.

You will be surprised as to how well this contains and dissipates distracting thoughts. I always use this technique when I have a wandering mind and it always works and is very simple to visualize.

It is a powerful concentration tool for meditation.
In the process of realizing the dream, abandon all feeling of fear; And, if the dream be of fire, transform the fire into water, the antidote of fire. And if the dream be of minute objects, transform them into large objects; Or if the dream be of large objects, transform them into small objects: Thereby one comprehendeth the nature of dimensions.
And if the dream be of a single thing, transform it into many things; Or if the dream be of many things, transform them into a single thing. - Tibet
