Title says it all

Why do people have the old hag nightmare?
I mean, i am sorta afraid to have it yet i am sure i wouldnt, even if i did, it would be interesting.
I thought nightmares were off fears of a personal extent, not a common thing.

i was afraid to follow through with a wild for a while from fear of a hag. i'm betting, thought, if you worry about it, you are MUCH more likely to have one and if you keep your mind off it, the chances are slim to none.

The old hag, is when you wake up in sleep paralysis. You can't move and you feel a big pressure against your chest. Some people say, that they can see a person sitting on top of them. Some people don't.

Yeah that's about it. I've experienced it plenty of times when I was younger (the worst one it felt like I was being strangled - that was actually more recent), but I've never actually seen what the hag looks like. My latest experience with the hag was more of an annoying one than a frightening one.

Once you actually begin to the LD, you don't feel that pressure on your chest anymore.

The term "old hag" comes from somewhere in europe i think... maybe china.

You wake up and you cannot move your body... then they say you see a shadowy figure come in or an old witch like lady come in and sit on your chest. Some cultures say demons instead of old ladies.
You are filled with alot of fear usually.

"old hags" were one of the causes that led to witch hunts and deaths of many people, aspecially women, some centuries ago. People said that there were witches doing devil stuff. So they just burned some inocent people .

The "Old Hag" stories have been around for so long they've practically become a generic dream image, so it's not surprising that LDers report such encounters. Depending on your own particular temperament, you may see demons or angels... or aliens and astronauts.

There's a lot of generic dream imagery.

This kind of dreams are very common at your youth. When you are still quite small and all those old ladies, i.e. at school, crying out over your during the classes. You feel overwhelmed by their authority.
