Thread: Who is the boss?

I think I am the boss but I don't think my dreams agree with me. Seems like my mind is always trying to mess with me and play tricks to keep me from being lucid or do what I want. In most cases it wins too.

I'm going to lean towards 'my unconscious mind' because if we were the boss than weird strange shit wouldn't happen that much (inconsistencies in the dreaming world).
But we can influence how our uncionscious mind acts by way of lucid dreaming and extreem excertion of control.

For most people, when they are born the situation is this:

The concious mind rules the waking hours, taking into memory experiences.

The unconcious mind rules during the night. Fabricating dreams based on those experiences stored during daylight.

Then there's the process called lucidity. Which basically gives you a mechanism to which you learn to make the concious mind more dominant during the night, where your subconcious usually rules.

My idea is that the position of the 'boss' is flexible. It depends on how you live your life, and what your personality is.

When I'm lucid, I'm in charge.

I think I'm the boss. But a lot of stuff is done automatically by my subconscious mind.

However you can gain control over your body and mind through practice.
(for example indian yogis, martial arts teachers and so on... They have more control then ordinary person...)

Well, I dont really want to be boss. I just want to be the visitor... My subconcious generates the dreams etc and yeah in a Lucid dream i would alter stuff but still not be the real boss... I cant possibly controll all the surroundings etc that would not be possible/enjoyable.

Well boss doesn't do all the work, hes just incharge. No one wants to control everything, but theres a difference between doing what you want and fighting over control so you can do even the smallest of things.

Yea, Ev's right, there are much more ways to exert control over the subconcious than just lucid dreaming.

He's the boss!!!! No really i am in my dream... or at least i want to be! Sorry i couldn't resist!

I'd have to say that dreaming would be more of a joint venture.

i think it's the subconscious that's in charge. you just live in it's world... when lucid you have more freedoms but you're never in total control of everything around you. -- for instance; i made my own island... i was in control of the creation of it. but sometimes i come back to it and it's infested with rabid, a-sexual monkey’s and i have to eradicate them... or a hurricane hit it and i have to clean it up... i wasn't in control of that stuff, i just reacted to it.

(and yes the monkey's were a bitch to eradicate... they were a-sexual and every time i killed one it would somehow spawn another. i ended up flooding the island and rebuilding... damn monkeys!)

I'm only in charge when i'm lucid, otherwise it's my subconcious that's the boss...

last night i had a lucid dream, but i was controlling myself through a gameboy or something. I could still do some stuff like fly and walk through things, but i hated it because as I was flying the friggen scenery would change and I couldn't ever find my friend.

so, i guess i'm a liar... my subconcious is almost always the boss

Yep Im pretty much in charge in my dreams.. Only when Im lucid... Haha

My sub-conciousness definately. Haven't had the Lucid experience yet. Though at times when i'm lying in bed before sleep, my eyes closed we can 'talk' musically but if i make any movement to reach for a pen to write down the results it very quickly fades from memory so i generally have to go with for as long as possible and just take in what i can.

perhaps if i trained myself to be more tonally aware i could get up and play the notes, but for now i have to make do with remembering good arrangements.
Hopefully when i do get lucid i'll bring forth a real orchestra in my dream and see what happens.

why dont one of u guys learn about something...for example some technology or research..then try it out in ur dream.....probally only for extreme masters of ld....but gives u opportunity to try stuff that is prohibited in real world
