Bananas contain tryptophan, which the body breaks down into serotonin & melatonin ~ serotonin is one of the neurotransmitters that helps us lay down new memories, and also helps us to think critically & retain self-awareness, melatonin helps us fall asleep. During REM sleep serotonin levels normally fall very sharply (which is one of the reasons why dreams are hard to remember) so supplementing with anything that increases your serotonin at night should help your dream recall, and also increase your chances of becoming aware/ lucid while you're dreaming.

Cheese & chocolote, peanuts etc also contain tryptophan & should also help with dream recall & awareness, etc, especially if you eat them at night in between waking & going back to sleep again. That's the theory anyway...
