i dont have too much trouble getting into my lucid dreams.
but when i get into them. i get a really harsh feeling that causes me a great deal of fear and pain.
i can only relate it to back in the day when i did lots of lsd. its that fear of the unknown, in away.
it happends every single time i start a LD.

anyone know of a way i can change this pattern?

I think you need to take a breath and relax. I think that part of your problem, is that you were already under the impression that having a lucid dream would be frightening, just as you did with LSD. With a more optimistic attitude, I don't think you'd have this problem. Also, make yourself relax....excercize, meditate, drink a warm glass of milk before day, or a bit of green tea. Just put your mind at ease, and be confident that you will have a good experience.

Sometimes I feel the same fear of the unknown. Early on during my LD experiences I would practice self defense tactics to battle whatever i was gonna face. The thing is - I rarely faced anything and when I did my LD power multiplied by 10. I could do things that I found hard to do normally. Among my numerous LDs there were maybe 2-3 serious attacks and they werent all that bad. I kept cool and didnt panic. Recently I've discovered an element in my dreams that is evil and spiteful, but I deal with it.

Sometimes I'm a bit afraid of being in the dark rooms, looking in dark bathrooms during LDs, but nothing ever happened.

You should remember that unlike your LSD trips you are in control. Your mind is a lot more clear. You are lucid inside your own mind. Dreams are much more stable than any trip, there is time to regain your senses, time to avoid confusion. If something happens and you dont panic you will have the most amazing arsenal of defensive powers at your disposal.

You may also reflect upon your LSD trips and try to remember what scared you the most and if that fear ever came to life. How did you feel after the trips?

I dont know about that pain you are speaking of.

thank you very much for the answers.

im not nervous about my dreams. quite the opposite actually.
im over run with excitement of having a ld. i go into each dream with a possitive attitude.
they start off fun, i explore a tad. then i get this feeling and it over runs me.
thats where the 'pain' comes in.
it hurts, not alot. but my body feels very sore. like after a day of labour.
then it gets intense and i start to feel scared of whats coming next,.

then i wake, drenched in sweat.

ive tried numerous things to put myself at ease. post dream.
tea. hot tub. smoking alittle pot. even sex, which is very relaxing for me.

ive gotten closer and closer to finding out whats coming up. but i get into this 'loop' that is hard to break.
and the looped thinking is what brings me to lsd.
repedative thoughts going over and over inside your mind.
just when you seem to get out, you fall rite back in, with even more intensity.

on another subject, is music a good idea to use?. 'cause i always fall asleep with music on, have ever since i was 10 years old.
nothing very upbeat, letely 'tool' has been on when i sleep.
i find it makes my mind wander into a sort of medatative state, where im not asleep, but not awake. my mind is thinking deeep. and my body is sleeping.
which is typically how i get to lucidity.

Oh, the repetitive thinking thing is really nasty. I've felt it on DXM and it's not fun.

Next time you are lucid try to ask why you are afraid. Ask the dream or any DC that is nearby. Chances are you will get a good answer.

      ok, thank you VERY much.
i thought i was just not able to LD, until i found this site.

ive never had an experience with a DC.
my LD's are always very breif and not alot happens, i just start to explore my enviroment when that whole non-sense sets in.
everytime i get farther and farther along before it happens.

and is it normal for my LDs to occur in exactly the same place everytime.

      Besides once having in Sleep-Paralysis

I always get that everytime I have believed were OBEs. I felt so... vulnerable is the best I can describe it as. I don't get them in regular LDs, I just have a sense of security in them, maybe because I believe they are two different things and feel secure "inside of myself".

Green Tea, earl frey tea, special herbal ''sleeping'' tea mixes (I've got one with Lavender, Valerian, Chamomille and Peppermint: really relaxing), incense, play some gentile guitar before closing your eyes...or WHATEVER get's you in a Calm peacefull Mood should help you loose the anxiety.

I usually start having typical, sometimes rather extreme and a little unnerving, emotions and feelings right before Falling asleep. It's usually when there's something stressfull on my (subconcious) Mind. It becomes stronger while I drift off into a Dream.

SO my advice is to go to bed with a calm peacefull Mind. If, for some reason, there is some ''malcontent'' and ''inner struggle'' or anything that keeps your Mind too busy: You will probably experience the anxiety and also possible it may in many cases be the reason why many people, who have this, have trouble falling asleep.

If your Mind is NOT at ease, Don't try and force it to relax and sleep: it will only work backwards.Sometimes you just don't feel too well Mentally: Don't Ignore it...Take some time to give your Mind some well deserved Rest in that Case. Get out of bed and take some time to REALLY relax: It usually takes some time for people to be able to Really calm their Minds when hey feel stressed or anxious.

Also try doing a ''before bedtime''-ritual. Ritual as in: Take about 30 minutes prior to sleeping to unwind: Be all by yourself, no TV, People, radio or any External Stimuli around. Just you in a Calm silent room ( IF some music calms you down somewhat, sure play some music) and try and empty your head of excessive thoughts: It may prove hard at first but if you keep practising ''becoming Empty and ClearMinded'' you will find that in time you'll be much more able to. And that will really bring a peacefull sensation of wellbeing. In some cases, like when your Mother has just passed away: I could Imagine the Emotion and Thought Process to go slightly berzerk and race in a very Disorientating and Disturbing way through your Head: Insomnia may be unavoidable. It's just too much. It need a LOT of time to heal and before your Mind will find peace again. Otherwise: being bullied at school, Relationship Problems or any other ''minor'' things that make your Mind a Mess:
Take some time for yourself. We are usually pressured by Society and such to ''Carry on and hide our feelings''. But that will only build up a mountain of Unrest and Malcontent in your Mind, untill you reach a barrier and Freak out. So not only in respect of sleep, but also in respect of waking life: Wellbeing should be charished. And when there's something that gets you down, or stressed out and Mentally Confused and Uneasy: Take some time to fix it before it builds up more and more.

You need to take a mental calmness, a peacefull state of Mind, into sleep. Otherwise there'll usually be lots nightmares, SP-Anxiety and Restlessness/Sleeplessness I know from Experience ( Insomnia is quite an experience -_- )

Yeah so did I tonight, a Nice Calming Tea, some peacefull Celtic Enya Music and now I'm going to bed and have some sweet mental and physical rest. Sleeping and Dreaming has got to be one of the sweetest things in Life
Only the Thought of a Deep Royal Sleep can make me drowsy ^^

Now tell me what that did to your mood and how you slept that night okay?
So will I ( I'm quite an Insomniac so I wonder, but think it should be no problem now )

I have a recurrent dreamsign and I become lucid every time I see it. The majority of my LDs this summer were caused by that dreamsign. These LDs took place in almost the same place. So I started to investigate - I've asked a DC in that dream - "Why am I here?" It took a couple attempts then I got a reply "You here because you dont practice your LD induction techniques". Maybe this dream helps me become lucid,or even trains me. Last time I asked "Why am I here?" a DC replied "You are here because you didnt accomplish the previous objective". I've asked what that was, and another DC responded, but I have hard time remembering both responses. That objective could be practicing techniques or speaking to my subconscious mind (that was my desire for a very long time)

I've been seeing this dreamsign for over 2 years now and became lucid almost every time. There gotta be a reason why I keep seeing it and I'm gonna find out.

      That is very facinating.

I've just had quite the experience myself.
