      Set It Straight

Hey everyone, I'm really new to this whole thing but I'm very interested and intrigued but I need a few things set straight so I can just make sure I'm going about obtaining lucid dreams in a proper manner.

      1) About DJs' is it ok that I miss a day or two?

      2) When reciting "I will wake up after every dream cycle." or any phrase, how many times should one say it, should it be said out-loud or in your head, does it normally yield results?

      3) About Dream Signs (Is this the wrong term?), the one I've started doing was holding my nose and breathing. Just to make sure I understand, you do it ALOT to the point were it becomes so repetitive that you do it in your dreams? Does this take along time?

      4) The method I try and use is the 'Don Juan' technique of looking at your hands before sleep and reciting "I will see my hands in my dreams and I will know I am dreaming.", out of curiosity is this the most effective method of inducing LDs or is this just like the repetitive Dream Signs(?)?

I also have some questions about LDs themselves.
-Are they vivid and clear or cloudy and undetailed?
-Are there the sense of taste, touch, etc and are they fully and realistically emulated?
-Do they feel short or does it actually feel like its lasting for 30minutes-1hour-5hours etc?
-Is it possible to have more then one a night?

Thanks in advanced. I'm really excited by the whole prospect of being able to control my dreams and have free range.

I may not have had one, however I've read enought to help you out.

      1) As long as you have a clear idea of whats in your dreams and what's very common in them.

      2) Whatever works for you. Experiment.

      3) Maybe, depends on you.

      4) No, there are other different techniques (I'm trying to get WILDs). Whichever works for you. We tell you this method is the best. We can only tell you commonly used ones.

I also have some questions about LDs themselves.

-Are they vivid and clear or cloudy and undetailed? It's random. If it's not really vivid, simply rub your hands until its vivid enough for you.

-Are there the sense of taste, touch, etc and are they fully and realistically emulated? Depends on how vivid and detailed the dream is. THere can be dreams where you can't taste and etc.

-Do they feel short or does it actually feel like its lasting for 30minutes-1hour-5hours etc? If you can make it last that long. There have been reports of years in dreams. It's up to you. The more you work on it, the longer and more vivid they can be.

-Is it possible to have more then one a night? Yea. You can continue your first dream. I believe that two can be done. That's the most I've heard of.

Yes, that is the wrong term. You're talking about reality checks. Dream signs are just things that happen frequently in your dreams (i.e. you find yourself at your old school that you haven't been to in a long time). Reality checks are the tests that you do all the time to find out if you are dreaming. I hope that helped you out.

Yep. You won't burst into flames or anything. Seriously though, try to write down as many dreams as you can.

There are no cookbook recipes on these techniques - it just depends on you. I like to say things to myself rather than outloud, but that's just me.

You're referring to a reality check. And holding your nose and tring to breathe is a good one. Check out the reality checks tutorial for more ideas.

Just like any induction technique, it all depends on you. What works for me, may not work for you, and vice versa. You'll need to try different things to see what works and what doesn't. My favorites methods are WBTB and MILD. These are also good techniques for beginners to start with.

Again, all these things depend on you. Some of your LDs may be highly vivid and detailed, while others not so much so. Nothing is for certain. My LDs don't seem to last an overly long time, but some members have very long, intricate LDs. And, yes, it's definitely possible to have more than one LD in one night.

      Good luck and have fun!

Bah, no worries! That's why it's good to ask questions.

I'd like to add that the Don Juan technique doesnt work. Or at least it doesnt work on a newbie LDer level. I've been working with that technique for 3 months before finding this site with no results.
