Thread: Dreaming in 3rd person

I do this a lot, I dream of other characters who I see in the third person as if Im in a watching position but I am somehow acting as that character in feelings and action.

Has TV warped my mind?

Ha ha, maybe.

I had a dream in the third person the other night, and it was kind of like a video game.

Tv and video games probably have a lot to do with it, but I definatley wouldn't say there's anything wrong with it. Nothing to worry about, at all

In my normal dreams I sometimes find that there are one or two images that are in the third person, and I am looking down on myself. Just as if the "camera" has cut away for a breif moment.

I find it very interesting that we can explore different perspectives

I dream in third person on some occasions, and in first person, as in fps games; not the 'real' first person. I don't enjoy dreaming in third person, or first person - as in games - in my dreams. I can, however, switch back to 'reality mode'.

Out of statistics in here (my neighbourhood / school) I can say that in here at least, most people dream in 3rd person, so it's nothing weird.
Though it's more common also that those that DO lucid dream, dream so in 1st person.
(again: most in here).

I have to agree: I think its mostly TV and videogames, or the fact that you are not aware that you are dreaming. That you just ''are'' there, floating, and watching your mind do stuff like a numbed person watches other people do stuff. (That it might increase the chance of 3rdperson-ness dreams)

Yeah I have dreams in 3rd person, where the person that I am watching and semi controlling isnt me

No, this is not a direct result of TV. But it does indicate that you have not yet matured into a secure and active personality in your own right. In a sense you are still in something of an childish perspective in which you stand alongside the thoroughfare of the World and watch the Grown Ups take care of business. You have not yet stepped up to take responsiblity and to act independently.

And this may be quite alright, at your stage of life, since I don't expect that you are very old.

However, in years to come you will inevitably find yourself more the Actor in your Dreams, and will only revolve back into the 3rd Person when the Higher Dream Mind wants to show you a Meaningful Story but without the possibility of you interferring with any of the details.

I will dream in 3rd person on occasion. In these dreams I usually have no control over the scene. It is like watching a movie or a cinema from a video game. I've also had dreams where I was inside a video game and these are usually pretty fun. In that case its sorta like a lucid dream (I am in control) but I dont realize its a dream, only that its a game.

This is actually quite true to an extent, though I am not void of responsibility in life I have had to step back towards my independence (as in moving out, exploring my interests) in order to help my family in a difficult time. But as a result, its left me at home quite a lot- and although I am eighteen and don't feel ashamed in this, I can see how it has stunted my personal growth to an extent. As the second youngest of five children, due to the odds I suppose, we (my younger sib and I) caught the flack of these hard times and certainly feel left back in the wake of our older siblings and peers.

As a side to being more hermit like, it has given the world sort of a glossed over feel and we are much more introspective- which is a plus I suppose.
