Wow this is such a cool topic...I think it should be stickied!!

I had them for 14 years shrouded in mystery, mostly. Then when I told my sister about them, she said that I was LDing, and I told her, "Is it seriously possible to do that everynight?" She said it was. Then I found this site, and viewed it as a guest, and changed my overall website as well!! It wasn't until Icedawg helped out my website that I ended up here, posting as a guest at first, then eventually joining!

About 2 years ago in English class we had to read an article about lucid dreaming. It was poorly explained and I didn't really think about it after class.

Then 3 weeks ago my cousin told me on msn that during an afternoon nap (he was sick) he'd gotten into a dream while knowing that he was dreaming. I suddenly remembered the text i'd read before and searched for lucid dreaming on wikipedia. I showed my cousin what I found and he told me that was exactly what he was doing (he'd done it after that first time, and we quickly found out those dreams were called WILDs). I got fascinated by lucid dreaming and started reading more about it and found Dreamviews two days after my cousin had told me of his experience. We both joined the forums.

I had an LD but I thought it was something to do with Sleep paralysis. I went onto a site explaining SP, but it said nothing about being aware in your dreams. Luckily a pop-up about a lucid dreaming package came up, and searched it into google. DV was the 2nd LDing site I found, ld4all was the first one.

Fortunately, lucid dreaming is just something that I've carried with me for as far back as I can remember. Ever since I was in elementary school, I would be able to recognize a nightmare as a nightmare, and developed the skill of "willing myself awake." After awhile, instead of just using 'knowledge of dreaming while dreaming' to wake myself up, I started doing other things just by pure fear and instinct; jumping really far/high, manifesting weapons, things like that.
Throughout middle school, I got frustrated because no one else seemed to know that this kind of stuff was possible, let alone was anyone else experienced enough with it to hold a conversation about it, so I walked around considering myself somewhat of a "Dream Master." (lol. Middle schoolers are such dorks. )
Later, for about two years, I started to lose the ability to LD, except for maybe once or twice every two months, and didn't think too much of it, because it sucks only having yourself to share something as cool as LDing with, anyway.
But, shortly after that, going into highschool, I heard the term "lucid dreaming," I forget where from, starting reading about it online and was like "HOLY SHI0T OTHER PEOPLE DO THIS TOO?!" found Dream Views, and the rest is history in the making.

First LD: God only knows. I can't remember. Mid 80's, sometime.
Found Out: Didn't first hear the term "Lucid dreaming" until about '97, so we'll go with that.

I basically was the same. I only recently found out what it was called.

I had my first LD at about thirteen. I was 16 when I joined DV, and I have been here for about two years. DV has definately helped my dreaming abilities.

I found out its name the previous month. But I have had my first lucid dreams approximately 3-4 years ago where I used my mind to spawn objects/characters, flying, etc.

I actually stumbled across a lucid dreaming book in the library probably like 10 years ago. I had to write a paper for school and I was doing some unrelated research at the library. Searching through the shelf, I see a book called "Lucid Dream in 30 Days." I had always had crazy dreams, but I never heard of this 'lucid dream' business. So I read the back and I was sold. After reading the book, I had a lucid dream within a week or two. I developed it for a bit and then took a break. A few years later I picked up LaBerge's text and tried some of those techniques. I again saw immediate results. Lucid dreaming is most definately one of the coolest things ever (way better graphics than PS3). I just wish more people knew about it.

I started having lucids at age 10 or something but i didnt know they had a name or that any1 else knew about it then. i actually thought i was special . i had about 10 of these and then last year some1 at my school did a science fair project on WILDs and i searched lucids. i found dream views and now i get a lucid about once a week

Exactly the same as me. Except I only seemed to become lucid during a nightmare (in which case I would simply wake myself up), or while flying. I have very frequent flying dreams, and I still think I have a fair few nightmares.

I found out about lucid dreaming through a different website. I saw the term and did a search on it to see what it meant. It was only then that I realized it wasn't just me, but loads of people and can do it.

I always knew I was dreaming in dreams when I was a kid. As i got older i realized less and less i was in a dream, but still have tons of semi lds, and short LDs. then I joined DV when I was 16. I am 18 now and After just starting to get 8 hours of sleep again ( a little experiment, which i havent followed tonight ) I have noticed those short LDs and semi Lds comming back to me.

I was always mislabeling vivid dreams for lucid. When I was about 10 years old (I think, maybe 8 ) I had gotten my first alarm clock and was excited to be grown up enough to wake myself up for school (lame I know ). One morning, I slept through my alarm clock (im a VERY heavy sleeper) and as I slept the loud persistant wailing became incorporated into my dream. This still happens today

I remember the dream, but it is too silly to post and I feel a little embarassed because of where its from- once I realised I could influence my dreams I started using my alarm clock to wake up and fall asleep with a set focus in my mind of what I wanted to dream about. I did this for a while then forgot about it all together until a month or so ago, I had a very intense false awakening type dream and looked up lucid dreaming, found this site and joined right away.

I wish I had a time machine because I would love to have nurtured lucid dreaming right then and there-

I had a few spontaneous LDs as a kid and in the early teens, but I did not understand them.

I first heard about "lucid dreams" in a TV program about sleeping. Around two years later I was bored at college and remembered this, and thus discovered LD4all.

If you don't know already LD4all's tutorial sections are great, and I began having some cool LDs soon after. About a month later in March 2004 I joined DV and have been posting on and off since, but I rarely have LDs now.

I am a usual visitor to wikipedia.

And one day I noticed the wikibook of the month. It was an entirely new concept. It told about controlling your dreams. I read the entire book online and then started going to the webpages given at the end. First one was ld4all. It asked my kin and I left there. Then it was lucidcrossroads. It was a nice experience there. And then I came here. The design attracted me a lot. The most attractive thing was the absence of ads.(Especially google adsense)

I had my first lucid dream within one week I joined here. And now I have frequent lucid dreams.(less vivid)

The wikibook that showed me the existence of a new world

I first found out about Lucid dreaming when i must of been 9 or 10 (as far as my knowledge i had never experienced a lucid dream before) and i was reading a fiction book...something like fizzle street (if i find the name of the book ill tell you), it was more of a OBE book that lucid dreaming but the author called it lucid dreaming. I didn't really think much of it, as it was fiction book, and i thought it was an authors crazy thoughts.

But then, i cant remember how, but i stumbled across it, and i thought wow. I'd try out the techniques but since i was young i was impatient. Now though I set my mind on what i want to do and i will do it !

17 June 2006 - Someone mentions lucid dreaming on a magic mushroom forum that I visit. I make a mental note to find out what "lucid dreaming" is.

19 June 2006 - I search Google for lucid dreaming and find several lucid dreaming FAQ's and then this site. I spend pretty much all Sunday reading about lucid dreaming.

21 June 2006 - I begin my dream journal on this site with the intention of improving dream recall, but with no intention of becoming lucid yet.

23 June 2006 - I experience my first lucid dream, which lasts several minutes and is highly vivid, and am utterly astonished at the experience.

Not bad really... Going from nothing at all to lucid dreaming in less than a week. My rate since then has been about 1 lucid dream every 5 days without really trying.

I'd have some random LD's every once and a whle so I tried looking for a website about it, and Dreamviews came up. Which is the best site about Lucid Dreaming I've ever seen.
