I actualy have died in a dream about 3 times and it's not cool at all.

The first time was during an LD I was on top of a skyscraper that had a garden like area on the roof, I was fighting a large man with a big knife. During the fight he stabbed me in the chest a few times and I died (It was just like passing out) I awoke feeling a little shooken.

The second time was in a LD where I was in a battle field, After fighting my way up this huge hill filled with barbed wire fences and trenches I dove into a trench and was crushed by a tank driving over the trench and nose diving in on me. I could feel the the masive weight on me and i tried to push it off but I steadly began to black out. (die)

And the last time was in a LD where I was doing something I have forgotten what, and I ended up being shot to death. I could realy feel the warmth of my blood as it drooled out of my mouth. It wasn't cool....

So I have learnt that you can infact die in your dreams. It just makes you wake up.

The idea that dieing in a dream will actually kill you is just a myth made up by people who have no understanding of dreams. It's completely bogus.

When you die in dreams, one of two things can happen. The most common is to just wake up. The other possibility, which requires you to stay in the dream, is to come back to life after about half a minute. Some people see that latter as a changing experience, and say it makes them less afraid of death. Others see it as just another part of dreaming.

no offense advendreams, but you dream some pretty messed up stuff. I thought it possible to die in a dream but not when youre Lucid lol. You must not have had a chance to do anything about it

No, i have died @ least 3 or 4 times in my dreams... sometimes my body will go into shock or i will feel some pain. So maybe there is some actual out of body symptoms...

Thanks all for the comments, I myself always wake up whenever I die in a dream or ressurect after a few moments, so i didn't consider it really dream dying persay but i suppose it is. anyways thanks for the comments thus far.

Sometimes I awaken, sometimes the dream just sort of pauses, other times I become another person

I dont really die that much though.

But yes, the die when you die in a dream thing is BS

To begin with, dying in real life because of dying in dreams is indeed bull shizzle.

Anyway, I have died a lot too. One time, I had something like a couter-strike styled dream. We had to go get this thing from the enemies and then make it back to our base. Well, we failed and only one of us made it back. I was trying to make it back too, but then the person who was with me said that it would be much better to just face that we must die and let ourselves be shot. He did so, and then I figured I had no choice so I did too. They shot me and I fell to the ground. Everything went black. I then remember thinking, "Hahaaha all those religious people were wrong. I died and I didn't go anywhere! Heaven and hell are fake!!!" Then, I came back to life, but I was Sonic the Hedgehog. I felt myself slowly get up. Then I woke up.

I've also been killed by a mad scarecrow, eaten by a T-Rex, fallen off an enormous flying dove to my death, zombies, alligators, outer space low pressure explosions, you name it.

I too have died in several dreams. Shot to death, zombies, car accidents ect. Its actually kind of a cool feeling to think you died and then wake up and be okay. Maybe I am just different though...

I have to disagree with the above. What you are saying of death (blacking out) may not be anywhere close to what death is like. That is merely what you think death will be like. No one has seen what death is like an lived to tell it. Yes, a pun was intended.

You cannot die in a dream, because you cannot die without, well, dying.

I must say, this is something i too have wondered about, i have never actually died because i always wake up before hand.

I had this dream where some armed Soldiers patrolling the English/Israeli border (yes i know) chased and shot me in the head for trying to cross secretly, what amazed me (never having actually been shot in the head in RL) was that after they shot me i felt limp and all warm a fuzzy, i remember thinking that if i kept still and didnt move they would take me for dead and leave me alone, but then my leg twiched, they shot me again and i awoke.

I guess you experience what your brain assumes dying to be like.

I have once in a dream...it was one of the scariest things ever and i felt ill and paranoid for the whole day after!

I agree with your disagreement.

I had a dream in which I was very old and on my death bed.
Of coarse I could never know EXACTLY what death is like.
In my dream I had little time left.
With my own intuition, the hundreds of accounts that pertain to death in our everyday life, I think our subconscious can crate a pretty accurate account.

I think this statement is exactly wrong. All people have seen death, and lived. That's because I believe a dream is a temporary death. Death being a separation from the physical body.

We cannot die in a dream because we are already (temporarily) dead. Death is a good thing, as is dreaming. Of course, death too can be temporary if you believe in reincarnation. The only difference is you come back to a new body instead of the same one.

What about people that sleep walk? Or move in their dreams?

Sleep paralysis is like any other safety mechanism that our bodies use.

You assume that death is fading to black, like passing out, what do you base that on? You think death is like falling asleep? You cannot comprehend what death is like, there for you try to relate it to something you do understand.

It is a fact that you have never "died" in a dream, because you have no idea what death will look, feel, or sound like. If you did, you would be dead.

I don't see how anyone can disagree with this.

I've died in dreams before, and I'm still here But if a person was to actually physically die (for causes unrelated to dreaming) during the dreaming part of sleep, then you could actually die during a dream. And I'd bet you'd be in a dream symbolizing this event. I think people have died and lived to tell about it, in fact I know some. Now I know the argument that the tale of the tunnel/white light is so well known that almost anyone could accurately describe it and that since this is what you assume death will be like, you're brain is creating a dream like scenario before you blink out of existence, or blink back in while being revived. (It's amazing what your brain can do while you are brain dead ) Or your optic nerves are dying, whatever. Like most rationilizations, I see this as the easy way to not explore something that challenges you beleifs. But I don't think anyone has experienced actually being dead and come back to tell about it, although some people have been dead for days only to wake on the autopsy table. But the transition between this life and the next has been partially experienced by many, many people from different cultures, backgrounds, and time periods.

I also feel that dreaming has a connection with death, but I wouldn't call it temporary death because you are still connected with your physical form even when you aren't in it. You're body is alive and well, but YOU can be somewhere else, similar to people in a vegetative state. I don't think all dreaming happens out of body, but I think it is possible. Based on the behaviour of ghosts, it seems like they are in a very dreamlike state where they can rationalize/not perceive anything that would indicate to them that they are dead. You do this in dreams also, and I don't think it has anything to do with your left or right brain, no matter what the self righteous scientists say. This is actually one reason why I beleive that lucid dreaming is so important. If you can go lucid in your dreams, you are more likely to go lucid during death and continue on you spiritual path, instead of lingering in a life that no longer exists. This is especially important if you die unexpectedly or in great emotional pain, which is usually what has happened to ghosts. I don't think science fully understands death or dreaming, and I also beleive most scientists are too arrogant and close minded to even try. But that is just me and my opinions.

Death = Death ... hmmmm, then Life = Life

From personal expirience, I was once choked on a massive fight, I passed out, like you feel when you fall asleep and remember squat until I came to later. And on another time when I was a kid, In a swimming pool some older kid drowned me, I equally passed out, only with alot of ansiety, I was later CPR'd or whatever, so in the end dying is like passing out, from my experience. In dreams I have never dyed, I either wake up, or the dream chages to another one

I believe a dream actually takes place somewhere in outer space, as opposed to inside the mind.

Evidence A: During lucid dreams, on occasion I will jump really high. The dream scene goes away and I find myself in outer space. Soon another dream scene will for around me. A different scene in a little different location.
Evidence B: During an OBE I floated right into outer space towards a higher astral plane. When I got close, I felt fast vibrations and I was suddenly "bounced" back into my body, feeling the travel all the way back. In a dream in which I turned lucid, I was talking with someone, and he too was vibrating in this same manner when I went to high five him. Again I was bounced back, also feeling the journey back into my body.

You can become more familiar with your other bodies if you astral project or go out of body. When one goes out of body, one's vision becomes spherical, it's really interesting. Perhaps it's because we only have one eye, I have not entirely figured that one out.

I'm not sure what implication you are making with the calorie remark. Also, you would have to specify which mind, or brain, uses the calories, and also how they are burned would help clear things up.

I have never bungie jumped, but I can do that in a dream
I had never wakeboarded before, but I did it in a dream, then I did it in reallife and it was pretty close (except if was alot harder to get up)

It is not impossible to do things you have never done before.

Many people die for some period of time and are then brought back to life, by the accounts of what has been said to happen I can formulate my own rather realistic way in which it happens

calmoftheye... you have pointed out exactly what i was trying to say, except stated it much better. it's just a theory though.

I agree in that if you die in a dream you do not die in real life. But you cant say this for sure. You have to take into account medical conditions. If you have a nightmare you wake up and your heart is beating fast. I would think it possible for something in a dream i.e getting killed to put a strain on your heart causing you to have a heart attack.

This of cause is unlikely but may be possible.

Just a thought.
