no awareness while dreaming
I've only had one lucid dream before. I do reality checks during the day. I just cant seem to develop that sense of awareness while dreaming. I recently had a few dreams that now I look back on and it seems so stupid I didnt realize I was dreaming. Is there anything to help me become more aware while dreaming?

People should treat Lucidity more as a Means of attaining Dream Goals than as an End in itself. If one sets the bar very high for what one expects from one's Dreaming, then Lucidity will often trigger when particular opportunities arise during Dreaming.
The biggest mistake I feel people make is to entirely dismiss their non-lucid dreams. Dreaming is Dreaming. Every dream should be evaluated on how close it came to meeting the criteria of whatever Checklist or Wishlist one has been contemplating. Dream actions and choices should be critiqued and examined. If necessary, alternate choices and behaviors should be actively imagined. One should contemplate alternative dream scenarios. All such fantacizing acts as a powerful Suggestion to the Dream Mind.
Under the influence of such Suggestion, one's Dream Expectations will be met, either without Lucidity, or Lucidity will spring up at the appropriate moment in order to help catalyze the critical choices at the critical moments.

I have a similar problem. I've had a few LD's but all of them have been DILD's. I've not been successful with the other techniques. I also agree with TygrHawk. Confidence is huge. I started to get frustrated after not having one for a few weeks and then when I stopped trying so hard and just had confidence that one would come when I was ready, it did.
My biggest problem is looking for dreamsigns. All my dreams are very very realistic and so most of the time things don't seem out of place. So I don't realize I am dreaming. The only LD's I've had have been when I am at a place I know I can't be at and then it becomes Lucid.
I've found that making a goal for the dream before I go to sleep and then visualizing whatever it is I want to do as I'm sleeping helps. Usually that visualization will occur in the dream and then I can use that to become lucid.
