Thread: meeting loved ones who have passed on

Has anyone had this experience?

My siter died 2 months ago and i had the most extradordinay dream in which she came and spoke to me, iit felt like a lucid dream, incredibly real!

I would love to hear from anyone who has experienced something similar.

My sister died over two years ago. I have met her a couple of times in a dream. Once when I was WILDing, she came into my hotel room and sat in the chair next to my bed. I lost my concentration and woke up right then.

It is a strange coincidence, but I had a powerful dream about her last night, non lucid dream.

She died of a heart attack due to complications from a kidney transplant in Octiber 2003. Last night for an entire REM cycle, I found myself trying to revive her. I was going heart massage, some kind of wierd blood thing, hard to explain, but involved placing a large diameter tube directly into one of her arteries and trying to make a crude life support system.

After working on her for 20 minutes, I finally got a pulse and she rivived. She woke long enough for me to talk to her. I told her that I didn't know how long she would last, but I was glad that she was back for a little while. I then kissed her goodbye.

The dream faded and I was left with a sense of peace.

I read in the wikibook on lucid dreaming that

Signs you weren't lucid

* Dreaming that you dreamt
* Treating dream characters as you would real people
* Having an unusually poor recall for that dream after you became lucid
* Not recognizing illogical parts of the dream as a dream

So meeting dead people in ur dreams and thinking that its real..... Is it a lucid dream ?

I just experienced this for the first time ever. My Omi (grandma) was sitting on my bed and we had a nice conversation, although I wasn't lucid. I knew in my dream that she was supposed to be dead, but I seemed to accept the fact that she had "come back" for a little while.

My maternal grandmother has appeared in my dreams a number of times over the years since she died. She usually does not say anything, but always does things that seem very in character for her. (A statement that cannot be made about any other characters using the form of recognizable actual people in my dreams.) Strangely, in the most touching of these dreams, I watched her from another room sweeping with my daughter (who was born several years after she died). Since in my life there have been numerous moments of symbolic sweeping, I was comforted to see my grandmother passing on this skill to my daughter.

I for one believe that when we dream we come into a closer contact with that relm that exists for us after we pass on. Obviously, I believe in life after death. My father passed away a few years back and since then has been present in my dreams. Some times he gives advice and others he's just there it seems to say, "You can find me here when you need me."

Even if you believe you are just dreaming it all up, (Nice pun on words ), it's still quite comforting to have those that have passed on in our dreams. It's in a way, as if they still live on.

I saw my dead grandfather in a dream. Triggered a lucid dream. My only lucid dream.

About twice a year or so, I dream of someone who's passed on. It's usually my grandmother. In these dreams I don't realize she's dead. And she usually never says anything. I catch glimpes of her or she'll be sitting in the room with me...and I always feel so unbelievably content when she's near.

A couple of my aunts and one of my uncles have visited my dreams too. These dreams never have the feeling of contentment though. When I dream of them, I have this miniscule feeling that something isn't right....but I can't put my finger on what it is that is out of place. The dreams continue on with me talking and interacting with them like I did when they were alive.

Dreams like these usually come when I'm severely stressed or depressed. They may not be actual after death encounters with my deceaced relatives...but afterward I feel somehow re connected to these dearly departed family members.

I know everybody else is talking about people, but I had a pretty weird dream about 6 months after my cat died. She was the same age as me, so not having her in my life was a pretty big deal...

Anyway, I dreamed that she was back, wandering about the house. I knew that she was supposed to be dead, but nobody else thought there was anything strange about it. It was distressing, in a weird way.

I have been trying so hard to dream of a friend of mine that passed away recently, with no luck. I almost had him in an LD the other night, but I couldn't focus enough to hold him . Last night, I finally kept him there! The level of my lucidity was really low, and I wasn't fully aware that I was dreaming, but enough to know that he was dead, and to be able to take advantage of the chance to say goodbye to him. I understand that this was all in my mind, and that it wasn't really him, but it helped me, gave me some comfort (I did not get to say goodbye to him in life), and some closure. He and his wife were at my kitchen table, as well as one of their moms, I don't know whose. We were smoking clove cigarettes and talking when I became lucid. I ran over and hugged him, and started telling him how much I would miss him, and all the things I have wanted to tell him and regret not saying sooner. He looked me in the eye and told me that he was in Heaven now, and would see me again someday. It was an awesome experience. I had been praying for three nights that I would dream of him, and that God would give me some peace through my dreams. Even though it wasn't real, it felt very true, and I am grateful for the experience.

this is an earlier post of mine. It was one of the most comforting dreams I have ever had. I was definitely lucid, and fully aware of the face that it wasn't real. It was really incredible.

Dreaming of friends/family/celebrities/loved ones who have passed on, is a very common theme in dreaming.

If one learns lucid dreaming, one can use one's lucidity to remember to ask these "entities" questions as to their true nature.

Speaking as one who has done this many times, I can only tell you that, when asked the "right" questions, these dream beings admit that they are not the true person they are representing. If you push them further, they'll even tell you the name of their "tribe" and that they are impersonating people you recognise in order to have energetic interaction with you..

So, in my opinion based on my lucid experience, one cannot meet the "spirits of dead loved ones" in lucid or ordinary dreaming. It's a trick perpetrated by the "entities" I've already mentioned.

If you're an atheist it's pretty obvious what your view would be on this subject.

If you believe in the Christian Bible (KJV, NIV, NWT, etc) there are no known references that exist where a dream is used to speak to one who has passed on. To Jehovah's witnesses who reference the NWT Bible, many passages support their claim that a person who has died doesn't have a consiousness until they are ressurected on the last day.

My opinion is pretty much the same as yours, Oneiro. The dead cannot be contacted through dreams or Ouija boards, etc. However, there's nothing wrong with seeking closure and attempting to summon a "simulation" of their presence in a LD just as long as you keep in mind it isn't their actual essence.
