      weird stuff being normal

why is it you accept weird things as normal in dreams. for example david schwimmer loading a nuclear missile into a hole in me back garden. the only thing that i thought was wrong with that was he was banging of the side of the hole which couldn't be safe.

why when things like this happens do you not just realise its a dream.

It's because for some reason in a normal dream all rational thought just goes out the window. However, it is possible to train yourself to practice critical thinking in the dream state, especially if you start to practice critical thinking in your daily life. The first thing to keep in mind is that if you have even the slightest inkling that you might be in a dream, you are. If you're only 99% certain you're in reality, you're actually dreaming. In waking life there just isn't any doubt that you're awake.

Try to get a good feeling for what is a realistic assertion and what isn't. For example, if you find somebody communicating with you telepathically, don't just think "oh cool I must have psychic powers now". Really try to examine the possibility of telepathy, and ask yourself whether this really is proof of something amazing or whether there's some alternative explanation (like perhaps it's all in your head). I've been researching critical thought over the past few days and have noticed a dramatic increase in the number of lucid dreams I'm having. I've had one nearly every night, and last night I had three (yes, three!) of them, just by examining my environment with scrutiny and asking myself what is realistic and what is not.

Here are some good places for getting into the world of critical thought:

“The sleep is still in my eyes
The dream is still in my head
I heave a sigh and sadly smile
And lie a while in bed
I wish that it might come to pass
Not fade like all my dreams” —Rush
