      What do you call this?

I have started reading a lot on Lucid Dreaming in the past couple months. The more I read about it, the more I become aware about something that happens a lot to me. I am sure it happens to alot of others, but I am curious what I can categorize it as. Well, it always happens in areas with alot of commotion or background noise. ( For example, in class). It happens all the time to me almost everytime, that is. When I lay my head against the wall, or in any position and close my eyes, I start to drift. Then I become less aware of my surroudings and the "real" noises become farther in the background, and as they go farther in the background, I become more in a dream state. The images I have become clearer and I think I can control them because I know that I am still partly awake and more along the lines of day-dreaming, but very vividly.. What is this called?

...maybe you're in the middle of sleep paralysis?

Ignorant bliss is an oxymoron; but so is miserable truth.

      Possibly

That might be it. But I know at anytime I can wake myself up (for instance, when I hear the teacher enter the room), but at the same time, I am having visions running through my head and I can sorta control them.. I guess its just a very vivid day dream. They can turn into visions versus ideas that you see in your head... I can't think of any other way to explain it.

I have an understanding somewhat of whats going on but Im sure Seeker has your answer, I've seen him post something in reference to it. Something like going into the Delta Phase of sleep, But Usually From what I understand the background noises doesn't usually fade they Increase to a certain degree. Like if you hear someone talking 50 feet away from you by the time you enter Delta Sleep it would sound like they are right next to you.

      Sounds Similiar

That can sound somewhat similar... Now that I think about it more, it seems that sometimes when I have these visions, the visions are in different settings, and phrases from people around me actually talking ( in real life) go into the visions.. I mean.. for example ( off the top of my head )... Someone around me will ask a question like " how are you doing?" to the person behind them in class, but in my vision it would be someone totally different, with this real persons voice asking "how are you doing?" in the same way but it could be some person in a hospital asking a patient how are they doing... etc.. strange things like that.. but the whole time I know I am dreaming, and partially awake, but can control the dreams.

Yup but you really wanna see how far the rabbit hole goes. Think about this one. And I know plenty of people exprienced this. You're halfway sleep but as you mentioned you have visions which is utimately your dream currently playing itself out through your visions you're inbetween the waking world and the dream world. Lets say for instance you're dreaming of walking down the street and you see this car driving crazy and in your thoughts you know he is going to crash, then all of a sudden BAMMM!!! the car crashes into a tree or something. Now heres the Mind boggling part. Right when you hear that Big BAMMM it was really one of your classmates dropping a book to the ground. And your dream played out this incident all the way to the point where it captured that loud noise and incorporated it into your dream at that exact same moment the noise crashed in the waking world. Now how did your subcounsious mind know that the guy in your class was going to drop the book while you were asleep??

      Well..

Well I see where you are coming from, but where I could see it being more practical is this.. Let's say the car is more or less driving down the road in a crazy manner, but instead of leading up to a crash, which takes more time to set up, what if a tire blew out? Something that could happen instant versus a crash, which would need the car to swerve (sp?) off the road before the noise could happen. But yes, I do remember at times where things would happen like this, but being that there are so many different conversations going on before class starts as you can imagine, the vision is rapid and constantly changing, like... the setting and the people can be changing every 2 or 3 seconds.. if you know what I mean, .... For the big bang, Perhaps, at that instance, another setting could start off and it could be the first thing I see in that vision...

It's pretty weird cause this only happens when I am very exhausted, and in a setting that has a lot of activity at the time. It's at this time where I am completely exhausted as to where I fall asleep unknowingly, but I am dreaming that I am still awake.. ( Which happens VERY often, when I am out on weekend nights drinking). Another example is where I will pass out from exhaustion while being intoxicated, and I'll dream that I am still sitting up with my friends, until a loud noise or something awakes me and I know I drifted off.. ( I am sure many people go through this).. and I will go through a cycle of this until I finally find a bed =)
