learning more than one technique?

I am still in the early phases of learning and practicing, I've now started practicing the MILD technique. Reading, re-reading, watching videos and so forth to hammer the concept in my head so I can try and practice it when I wake up after a dream. In one youtube video about MILD: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHk33m2xyKw He says how to do it, but then at the very end he says that you can't just learn one that works for you if you want to be an 'expert lucid dreamer', one needs to learn others. Why is this so? If MILD ends up working great for someone, why are other techniques needed? I did watch the two videos which appeared on the left at the end, neither elaborated on his comment.

I guess it worked, then! :lol: I have to say, there are a lot of click-baity video titles on youtube, it's rather disappointing. FIVE THINGS YOU SHOULD NEVER DO WHILE LUCID DREAMING!!!

If there was some point to that statement, my best guess is that through a little experimentation we might discover another method which works even better for us. I have also seen posts on forums about people who can no longer get a technique to work, so maybe having more than one method on hand is useful??

Yes, maybe... I guess many times we would say an expert in a field has knowledge of some variety. But who cares about being an expert for social media clout? This is why I don't really look for lucid dreaming videos, haha.

He does have books all on lucid dreaming. Daniel Love book, for some of the beginners out there. The book called "Are You Dreaming?: Exploring Lucid Dreams: A Comprehensive Guide". Right, I interpreted Snakeboy's first question about the video-poster's claim that you can't just focus on learning a single technique if you want to be "expert lucid dreamer." My view is that this claim, and similar claims that you must follow XYZ steps to lucid dream "the right way," are not useful and seem built up mainly for social media engagement. We have some scientific research like Stephen Laberge's, but the rest of dreaming is such an individual and subjective experience that I don't think it's even possible to say such-and-such qualifies someone as an expert in dreaming. So from my experience with my own dreams and also as a teacher, I have to disagree with needing to learn a ton of techniques, for most people it's more useful to focus on one thing at a time more deeply than trying to multitask.

Yeah, Agreed. Most people including myself learn from their own experiences.
Have you seen all his stuff though?
No one is an expert lucid dreamer since we are still learning how the brain works. People have their own experiences, learning styles, and sleep patterns.

Snakeboy: don't get discouraged if MILD is not working for you. Learning lucid dreaming is a trial and error. Again, you can PM him and ask him. He is a member here still. That would be your best answer. Maybe straight from the horse's mouth. You probably don't want to force yourself to hammer the concept in your head until it hinders you from experiencing it. None of these techniques WORK overnight.
One thing that no one tells you. Lucid dreaming isn't easy even if you are an "Expert".
I hope people will be more respectable to other members and even YouTubers here. ;)

This got a bit out of hand! :embarrassed: During my day, I've tried to expose myself to as much LD material as I can muster to saturate my thoughts with the topic. I read at night, but I also play podcasts and videos during the day while I work and do other things. The idea being it will carry over into my dreams, helping me realize I am having a dream. I've found the Youtube videos to run the gamut, quality-wise. There are some from LaBerge and Robert Waggoner, some decent ones from other new voices, and some probably not worth watching. I give each interesting one a few minutes, and simply skip it if it doesn't feel helpful. I've actually just started practicing MILD, so far I am encouraged. On night two I actually said to a dream character,"I am practicing MILD for this dream", which has me thinking I was just an inch away from breaking into lucidity!

It's good to know Daniel Love is on this forum, when I have a chance I'll try and find his account and ask him my question. From past experience, I find that youtubers with tons of views simply don't have enough time to answer lots of questions... which is why I raised the question here. Thanks for everyone's input.
