Besides this, the only other advice I can give is that quality of sleep can matter and when you awaken can too. I found that having my alarms within certain intervals in-between themselves made me either have less or more recall, depending on the timings. I typically have two alarms in the morning, the second one is to be sure that I get up in good time.
And of course, supplements can help but I think that in all likelihood, nothing is quite as important as diligent journaling. If you recall nothing at all, then don't get hung up on that fact and simply try to stare at your favourite writing media for a while and see if anything comes out, without forcing it. We often forget what we're trying to remember when we force it, as I'm sure you know. The point is to let your mind wander. You might not remember anything doing this, but you might also get something.
