      False Awakening?

Would it be considered a False Awakening if I were to awake from sleep and begin to recall my dreams and think that I actually am remembering and writing them down only to wake again and realize that it didn't happen? I don't actually move during the 'recall', at least I don't think. It is rather unclear. I just wanted to know the difference between waking up and imagining you are recording your dreams and actually having a FA where that happens.

Yes, you just described a classic false awakening. Frustrating, aren't they? One thing you can do is, every time you wake up, automatically assume it's an FA and do a couple of reality checks. You can turn it to your favor that way and catch some sweet lucidity!

Thank you for getting back to me! It is kind of exciting for me as well as frustrating because it is a new experience to me so it feels like progress. What kind of reality check could you do in the dark without moving too much? Trying to breathe through your nose or what?

Oh yeah, I definitely hear ya!! It really is a big step - you're starting to become aware of the states in between sleeping and waking.

There's a way you can close off your mouth and nose without doing the classic nose-pinch, just like you hold your breath for going underwater. It's a little tricky though, and not as sure as the normal nose-pinch. You can practice doing that and try to breathe in and out a few times.

I think if I had a tendency to have false awakenings, I might just try lying still long enough to 'record' the dream into your memory by repeating it under your breath, as if your'e telling it to somebody (this brings it through into your conscious mind and imprints it there), and then just do some classic RCs.

Heck, if it turns out you have false awakenings pretty much, I'd forget about lying still and just assume you're dreaming every time you wake up. You need to decide sometimes between 2 options, like do I try not to wake up too much by not moving, or do I go for the lucidity instead?

One time, Um I mean one night, when I was sick, I about 20 False Awaken before I finally realized what was going on and stopped it with a lucid. Though, I seem to have that problem when I'm sick.

Well, you probably want to start by telling us; what happened when you were attempting WILD.
