I've heard before that mindful meditation can help with LDing. My question is, can it help to make much of a difference? And if so, how does mindful meditation help with in LDing?
Yes, it can. Mindful meditation helps focus the mind in the present moment, which is essential for awareness for lucid dreaming. It can also help with recall since you are paying attention.
Another "Yes, it is really that helpful." In meditation, you practice:
- concentration, the ability to focus on something for extended periods of time and to recognize when your attention has wavered.
- relaxation, critical for falling asleep again after WBTBs or middle of the night wakings
- balancing between relaxation and concentration. You want to be simultaneously very relaxed, yet very aware.
- learning about yourself and how your mind works
All of these abilities are crucial for lucid dreaming.
I think it's my best way to get lucid, but I've been getting lucid since I was a kid (10 years almost?) and I don't know how it would work for others. But being aware of what is happening (especially in your mind) and not being lost in thought sounds like it's important to remain clear headed when you do get lucid. Because when you get lost in thought in a lucid dream, lose awareness and get carried away, you just forget that you're dreaming, you go along with the plot and you wake up thinking "oops, another lucid dream wasted".
Whenever I lose mental clarity in a lucid dream I will forget that I am dreaming and I'll go back to normal dreaming.
Yes :) for all the reasons mentioned above its very helpful - check out Sageous Tutorial on the Fundamentals though as its as much there as it is here :)
Good luck for the long haul :alien:
I would add that it may also help in an indirect and ordinary way, by improving your sleep quality. Good dreaming starts with good sleep. If your sleep quality is negatively affected by stress, troubling thoughts or emotions, restlessness, and such, then meditation could be a remedy.
I found it to be helpful about 25% of the time, meaning I can have a LD from meditating about every 1 out of 4 times I do it. But I don't meditate specifically for LD'ing. I do it for the physical and mental health benefits and the blissful state that can be achieved.
I don't even know where to begin to express my love for meditation. But I will say as many of my inspiring gurus of different areas of personal growth has said:
"Don't ask, experience!"
Even if I told you in detail what it means to be lucid, present, conscious, in flow, experiencing happiness, feeling like a kid again, being aware or even enlightened,
It will not be your experience and that information is not what will make YOU change.
Do meditation 1 minute a day and focus on the change in the state of mind that it brings you, and how your awareness of your dreams (and the world) change.
Then slowly increase duration until your only way of life is to be striving towards more awareness. I can assure you it is worth it.
Peace! :meditate:
There's some differences if I mediate lying down instead of sitting meditation?
Because I feel more comfortable
You can meditate in any position, as long as you are comfortable. However, lying down makes it easier to accidentally fall asleep. :flyaway:
When I get into an altered state of consciousness while meditating and set my intention to have a LD it almost always happens
But not just LD, it will give you many benefits in general. Meditation is awesome
