Lucid dream chaining

This is a pretty new thing for me, the other day I managed to chain 4 dreams in a row... it seemed so easy and made me wonder about the potential of this tool. So what I thought of it is, you are LDing and the dream ends either voluntarily or involuntarily... the you are in the perfect situation for a DEILD, which in my opinion is the easiest LD technique once you find yourself in the appropriate moment (which is the hard part to accomplish). But if you are already LDing you can plan ahead and just seize the moment after waking up. The only downside I see here is that recall becomes increasingly harder after chaining dreams, so I wouldn't recommend doing this after a LD you really want to recall in detail. What do you guys think about this? Does anyone do this frequently? Thanks! JP

Indeed, DEILDs are AWESOME! When I am between LDs, I replay the previous ones and I keep a count. I do this between each of the DEILDs. This way when I wake up, I recall all of them, sometimes up to 7. The hardest part for me is to recall the last 1 or 2, because those I didn't "retell" myself as well as the earlier ones.

Do you think one can think to much during a DEILD approach? when you recall all your LD can this lead to too much effort that it might happen that you dont land in the next lucid? i always try to think about the last dream or just wait and dont think

Sounds like a good idea, how do you that though? I can only DEILD withing about 1 minute after waking up... can you do it after more time has passed? or you just recall and count very quickly?

Lucid ends, and I'm thinking, it's over, I'll just lay there till next one starts so I can enter. But then I realize I AM STILL lucid, no need to enter anything. All I need to do is stand up and walk away into the dream. So while I'm "waiting for the next one", I replay the previous dream in my mind and all those before. Not to induce the next one, but to recall them later when I wake up. If I stay asleep deeply enough, I can think of anything, including recalling dreams, and I will not wake up because of thinking. At these times I can chain up to 7 or a bit more. Just recently I started having chains where I can't count how many DEILDs I had. It's one long event, without any clear transitions between them. I guess I'm trying to say, I don't think it matters what or how much you are thinking between LDs, but how deep you stay asleep. If it's an end of the REM, then we most likely wake up.

But if you are already LDing you can plan ahead and just seize the moment after waking up. Be careful though. Dreams have a tendency to follow your train of thought and your expectation. By focusing your attention on what you'll do when the dream ends, you may be hastening that very end. There's a risk of creating a self fulfilling prophecy there -Redrivertears-

good to read this, as I've been thinking of making DEILDS my focus for january. Sometimes I've had success with this, it seems like I'm still in the slip stream of dream mode. Sometimes however I'm totally still, but gradually become just more awake. I don't know what makes the difference. Sometimes in the dream I try and remember previous dreams from the chain, but this can lessen the stability for me as I'm more entering remembering/imagining, rather than being engaged with the current dream.

So some more questions that come up last night -is DEILD in theory always possible or only when waking up in the middle of a rem cycle and not at the end of it or when it is really late and REM cycles are very close to each other? this question because: i had a lucid in my first sleepcyle this night (after ~100min). there the rem phase is only about 10min long and when i wake up at the end of this sleepcycle is there even a chance to deild? in theory one would need to wait for another 60-80min? -so DEILD is easier when interrupt a rem cylcle (premature wakening from LD or awakening because of an sound or something) and therefore i would enter the next dream/DEILD "faster"? whereas when i wake up naturally after a complete sleepcycle it would need a little "longer" to DEILD into the next REM-Phase when i am at 4-8h after bedtime?

Thanks for the replies! RelaxAndDream, I am not very experienced... however, I've only managed to DEILD in the later sleep cycles (after at least 5 hours of sleep). I guess this makes a lot of sense mainly because of two things: 1- As you said it, REM cycles are short at first, this reduces the window of opportunity for LD chaining 2- In the first cycles your body is still pretty tired, this makes the mini awakenings that happen after each cycle harder to seize as we tend to go back to sleep instantly So my conclusion is that DEILDs are much easier to happen after some hours of sleep, but I wouldn't say they are not possible earlier on.

In the first cycles your body is still pretty tired, this makes the mini awakenings that happen after each cycle harder to seize as we tend to go back to sleep instantly Well that my friend is no problem when i set intention i notice my awakenings after 90-120min and then every 90-100 min. this is just a matter of practice (and i really really advice to practice it because it has enormous impact on recall, awareness and chances to ld)

Bro, I just came here to make a post (see http://www.dreamviews.com/general-lu...times-how.html) and was casually scanning through the post titles before leaving when I saw yours. I came up with this technique to make DEILDs easier, since you can DEILD too with proficiency, your help testing this and helping me improve it would be awesome! About your post and the recall. I agree. Today I had a lot of talking with this dream figure but I forgot his name, even though I managed to remember most of the details. I think being able to recall everything is important, but not as important as the experience at that time. Memories are just a recollection of a past event. Sure, they are great and if you don't have them, it's like the event itself didn't happen. But to me, even if it's blurry or missing, I still grab the most important experiences and info I found in the LD, so I'd rather keep DEILDing to further investigate whatever I'm at with my goals. To me, it's like the difference of being in the moment versus recording it with a camera. The photograph is not nearly as great as staring at that amazing, one of a lifetime sunset. At that single moment, it's pure bliss. That's me though. If someone is not so used to LDs or have a different purpose while attempting them, waking up and immediately recording the experience in a dream journal would be the best memory-wise!

I read your post Sujiro, I will try this next time I have the chance. I agree with you... not being able to recall something doesn't take away the richness and learning of the moment. However I like to remember!
