Other than WBTB, what methods have you been using? How many dreams a night do you remember? And as for how long it takes, it's different for everyone. Just stay dedicated and stick with it. I assure you, it's worth it (:
Hey luciddreams97,
It took me about 6 months to have my first lucid dream. Granted, I didn't really follow great tutorials like DreamViews, but the point is, it can take some time to see results. The important thing is to not get frustrated if you don't feel like it's working, because getting frustrated does more harm than good when it comes to lucid dreaming.
I would encourage you to check out this thread, started by someone in a similar situation as you. A lot of members of the community stepped up and gave some great advice for when you get frustrated from not seeing the results you want: http://www.dreamviews.com/general-lu...t-cant-do.html
Also, taking a break from active attempts for a few days is sometimes really helpful, give your mind time to absorb the lessons you've been trying to teach it.
First, and very important, make sure you sleep enough. A lucid won't happen if you are stressed, have a short night sleep, etc... Also, if you never had one, it's a bit more difficult for the brain to just "give it to you". I'm not saying you can't of course you can, but just take it easy.
I entered this world after some research about what happened to me, and later I discovered I had a lucid, and believe it was completely accidental.
Also, practice your dream recall. You need some time for it to work well. Make sure you write your journal every night, even in the middle of the night. You won't believe how amazing it is to start remembering dreams you didn't even remember, only because you started writing a short scenes of some dream you remember. Even if you think "nah.. I just remember this small bit, it's not worth it"... Write it, maybe it triggers a memory from another dream, or just a memory about what you did before that small scene.
Also, you have to think about what things are more common on your dreams (this is, dream signs), but this won't be possible if you don't have dream memories (dream recall). If you dream a lot about specific places, people, objects, etc.... just remember yourself before sleep that "I might be dreaming" next time they happen. It can be your office, and old house you used to live, a pet....
Finally, RCs... remember to make them EVERY time you wake up. I catched a lot of false awakenings thanks to this. And even if the lucid I get is really short, this helps your brain to go getting used to being lucid (not to mention make YOU used to it, so your excitement is not so big, so you have more chances of not waking up).
One advice I could give is to use a day where you have nothing to do in the morning, after sleeping 6-7 full hours, just relax on the darkness, buy some ear-plugs, and just try to sleep thinking about lucid dreaming, false awakenings, etc... I don't do this often (I only can on weekends), but some of the times I do, it gives me a small lucid, even if it's just moments before I wake up.
Good luck.
What I started doing recently was listening to this mp3 early in the morning at around 5:00 or 6:00 and I've had a lucid dream every time. I have not the slightest clue as to whether or not it will work for you though.
