Edge of a Dream
In my recent LD's I've been taking more and more interest in studying what is in the dream, the surroundings, what is being created, where does it begin and where does it end. What does the end or edge of a dream look like? I don't know for sure, but I feel like I've been seeing the edges of my dream, which is just black essence, like looking at the insides of your eyelids.
Does anyone know what the "edge of a dream" looks like? Does it even exist or is it just blackness? Has anyone ever tried walking to the edge of a dream? Would you just wake up? Or would you walk forever until you wake up?
Use one of my DJ entries as a reference. (Only the paragraph marked in red because it's kind of a long entry.)

I just started working on LD this week....have not had one yet. In all my dreams in the past it seems like I can really only see or notice my immediate surroundings, outside of that, it just seems like nothingness or I don't even notice there is anything there. That is until last night, in my dream I could see a huge set of doors that were something like 200 feet tall and about a 1/4 mile away. I also was in a large abandon parking garage and I could see all the way to both ends. For me, I think in the past I just went along with the dream and recently I am working on being aware of my dreams and that is helping me to notice things. I have notice this too in faces. I have never been able to notice faces in dream, my DCs had faces, I just never seemed to look at them or notice them but last night in my dream when I was in the abandoned parking garage, there was a toddler and I clearly say their face, I even noticed that it had a black eye. I can only speak for myself but it seems like as I work on thinking about having more detailed dreams and noticing more detail in my IWL I notice these things in my dreams.
Good luck on working on noticing the details of your dreams, I would really like to hear what you find.

I don't think I've ever noticed any “edges”. I've had several LDs where I purposely kept going in one direction as long as possible to see what happens, and I would just keep seeing new stuff for as long as I went until I woke up (it's quite fun). I've done it in buildings, and they would seem infinitely large (unless I decided to make an exit door appear or something).
I did come into a dream a while back where there was a landscape that just ended in a void in one direction—just a ledge with nothing beyond but blue sky (in all directions, including down). I flew over it to see what would happen; I think it eventually transformed into a different scene (my memory was a bit fuzzy there).
I'm not shy about exploring a “void”; I'm not worried about waking up because I see no reason I would (except by coincidence). I just consider it as a part of the dream like any other.

I'm not sure there could really be an edge to your dream locations unless you imagined one. I always thought of it kind of like with video games, it's only really loading what's around you, and when you leave it stops loading that place and loads the new location. I think of it kind of like walking on a treadmill with the scenery changing around you. I don't know if that's right, but it makes the most sense to me.
