What just happened? False awakening in a dream? Or was i lucid with no control?

I had been awake in the morning and was thinking about doing the fild method but I had to piss too much to try. So I ended up falling asleep and I remember the dream very well ; I was in a room with my friend tommy and he was telling me that I need to put my hands out further away from my hips when he was showing me how to do fild. (I already knew how to do it) acting like he knew all about it. Once he told me to start trying I remember I kept thinking and saying to my self get ready and I'm about to lucid dream and trying to make beats in my head to my fingers moving. Within 10 seconds of falling asleep doing FILD. I remember something just hitting me not physically but it felt like I fell asleep in my head and then I kept moving my fingers for a bit longer concentrating really hard cos it was really weird and difficult as soon I knew that I had done was ready to perform reality check I couldn't move. I couldn't pick my hand up to block my nose but I'm not sure if I tried blocking my gland at the back of my throat and tried breathing through it, I think I did, the either way I knew I was dreaming on a low to medium level. I kept trying to move and think of a different dream land and stuff like that. Then I had a quick deep thought and said to my self what have I read about people getting stuck or having no control in there dreams and for some reason I thought that I read a post that you spin around but obviously that was impossible because I was lying down and stuck probably in sleep paralysis some how in my dream. Either way I knew I was dreaming to some extent. But now when I think about it my eyes were closed that whole time and I don't remember seeing anything at except when i was frozen I tried imagining a big green grass field and said to my self when i open my eyes i will be there but once i opened my eyes i was in a random room? Anyways i just want to know what happened because this is the closest thing of being lucid i have ever gotten so yeah thankyou.

At first you were dreaming about wanting to do a FILD. Than in your dream you did the FILD and became lucid. But you couldn't move and do the reality check how you wanted. After wondering what to do you managed to change the setting but not into the place you wanted. A false awakening is when you think you woke up but your still in the dream. Its different if you start the dream thinking you didn't fall asleep. You were non lucid at first but because you managed to get lucid by wanting to do the FILD technique it became a lucid dream. You didn't have the control you wanted because you couldn't move but I think you did the best thing by relaxing for a bit and thinking of a different scenery. You can even ask or send a thought to a DC to take you out of the paralysis if they are around.(Or you can get them to appear)Congrats on the lucidity! : D

One more thing. You can color code the parts when you are non lucid,semi lucid and lucid so it isn't so confusing.Just click the face down arrow near the [A] above when you are writing and put the words in between the two codes with the brackets that appear.

I was also wondering what's happening when I wake up
At 4.30-5am most mornings. Could this be the end of my rem cycle
And a new ones about to begin? Should I be attempting WILD when
I wake up at that time? I got to bed at 12-2 am around that time. Thanks again.
