(Resist/ignore) / (Kill) / (Send love) to hostile DC

Hello, I just wanted some input from DVers experience with any of these three categories.

• Resist/ignore DC, such as leaving them alone or just stopping them without actually hurting them.
• Kill DC or maybe even just beating them up real bad.
• Send love to DC, and they end up being nice, or some sort of mental representation.

And tell me if your decision affected future dreams.

I recently had a dream in which I killed a DC, brutally. Here is what happened(I edited some part for context):

He started to put a stronger grip on my neck. I tried to use TK on him but it wouldn't work. It started to move towards me. I thought, Maybe I have magneto's power control metal.I couldn't reach the man's throat but I now can use magnetism. I put my hand towards his throat [On his throat he had a metal brace which signified he once was a slave] and I start clinching my hands into a fist slowly causing the metal brace to get tighter. He grabs his neck. I then without hesitation put my hand in a fist and the metal around his neck just got so small that it was a decapitation. He died instantly. His head didn't fall though. This was the first time I killed. To make myself feel better, I said to myself, "I don't care far too long have I let my DC kick me around". I see a hand on my right hand. It was frozen shut. I said jokingly, "how can I remove this hand?" I looked around everybody looked at me with fear. I said, "It is just human hand". I broke it off like it was just frozen meet. It was easier to break. I threw it into the metal burner. I saw his hand burn away. It happened instantaneously, I saw the skin burn right away and then the flesh with the bone

I normally either subdue, but they keep fighting. Some DC override my power, and walk over me. When I use TK they would just snap out of it. Ignoring them doesn't do much but I feel fear and regret. I don't know why that is, maybe it is because they could have been a metal representation to a waking life problem. Most of the time I try to send love to DC, but it never works. I don't know how to make it genuine enough for the DC.

Most of the books I read about LD say to send love, and not fight or kill DC because it will only get worse. A kid from church, whom which I told about LD is extremely violent. He has insane dream control as well. I on the other hand is tossed around by my DC. I believed that if I show a little gut I will have more control, so I attacked them. And I was sick of being DC's punching bag.

So, what do you think? will this haunt me in the future as a bigger problem? If some DVer kills hostile DC in lucid dreams consistently, please do share your experience.

Sending love is definitely the most effective for me personally.

Trying to fight can result in further struggles, I've found - either in the dream itself, or in future dreams with recurring appearances.
Maybe that's just how I work though, I don't think this would necessarily apply to everyone.
An example on the opposite side that I can think of is Hyu, who finally confronted a recurring nightmare character with a violent attack, and the character never haunted his dreams again.

I've converted very scary/threatening DCs into helpful/friendly characters just by projecting positive energy and refusing to believe that they needed to remain my enemy. If I behave assertively as though they're already my friend, they'll usually start to go along with it and often become very submissive.

Another thing that's been hugely beneficial for me is confronting my hostile DCs calmly with words. In particular, I asked recurring nightmare characters who they were, what they represented, and if there was anything they needed to tell me. They spoke calmly back and explained themselves, and I never had a nightmare with them again.

Another tactic I've used is freezing time. I've done this when there were too many hostile DCs to handle individually.
An example was when I was surrounded by scary nurses who were trying to restrain me. I held up my hand and froze them all in place, and just exited the room and continued on with the dream I wanted to have instead. :)

Thank You for a reply, Dreamer. Yeah positive energy sounds better than killing/fighting any day, but they catch me off guard, and I resort to natural human instinct, fear and anger. I will definitely try "refusing to believe that they needed to remain my enemy" and "assertively as though they're already my friend". As for sending positive energy, I don't really know how to do that. Freezing time sounds so cool, I will try it once I get good at dream control.

Sending positive energy, for me, starts with taking control of my own mind state.
I don't know if you practice mindfulness in waking life, but it's similar to that. I recognise that I'm scared (or feeling whatever negative emotion I'm feeling in the dream) and I focus inwards and work on calming myself, regardless of what's going on around me. Once I'm feeling a more positive vibe within myself, it seems like that projects outwards to the DCs.

My dreams often reflect my own feelings. I think most people find this to be true in some ways at least, eg. feeling confident about your lucid powers/abilities will increase your success rate much more than if you're feeling doubtful.

Great topic! I think Dreamer's advice is excellent.

There are a lot of lucid dreamers that have good luck with fighting, but this is generally not a good approach for me. Violent confrontations in dreams feel a bit too "real" in my dreams, and stir up the emotion and desperation of real combat.

Since the dreamscape tends to reflect my emotional state, I get bad results from having an emotionally negative experience like a violent confrontation. I've gotten in a fair number of brawls with DCs, and it's usually not the best way for me to handle it. This dream is probably the example of when I handled it the worst. It reminds me a lot of yours in that I couldn't get away from the DC and used violence instead. The unpleasant emotions that followed turned the whole dreamscape hostile: Clash at the Alamo - Dream Journals - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views

For me, positive energy like Dreamer suggested is a better bet. I like putting out positive energy and then redirecting the narrative of the dream. "Oh, you're looking for X, aren't you?" My best example for when I've done it right was when I convinced an assailant that he was just looking for some ice cream. :) DC Wants a Piece of Me - Dream Journals - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views

It's telling, though, how often I've forgotten to do what I know works and instead done what my instincts direct me to do (hit things like a caveman.) So don't feel bad when you go the other way! It's still your dreamscape, and anything can be corrected if we have the emotional poise to do it. That part I'm still working on! :)

Maybe for some of you a friendly and a peaceful way is the best, but the few LDs that I had I smashed and banish my dream enemies. In my LDs I become conscious in middle of nightmares and when I realize that I have god like powers I use them to strike back with all my anger and ate.

At surface I am a chill guy, but inside me is a sadistic and a pyromaniac because I keep too much negative energies inside me. I was very aggressive when I was a child, but I changed, somehow forced. Now I can't kick a human and I hold massive doses of hate for some of them. Cracking the skulls of hostile DCs is just a good way for me to feel free. Maybe you will say that there is Yoga or other peaceful methods to get free from all negative energies, but things aren't working this way. First I need to free them by doing destructive things, then I can manage to control them in future.

Personally, if there is a hostile DC or even as simple as one in my way, I'll kill them. I've in fact done this so often and consistently, since I started heavily getting into lucid dreaming (so in the past year), that I can now summon and take out a handgun from my pocket with no thought to it and kill a DC with no consequence, or perhaps a shocked reaction from surrounding DCs if I'm focused too much on it. If you're wondering, in the first half of this post I basically explain why I do it (actually that post is kind of relevant to this entire topic lol, so I give the same advice as I did in that).

The fact that I can do it so mindlessly and with ease now makes it seem like there really is nothing negative about the action. At the beginning it was a matter of, I'd shoot someone, I'd think 'oh god what have I done,' and then other DCs would go absolutely rampage on me. Now if I'm fully lucid, I can do it basically mindlessly since I know logically they aren't real, and they aren't really important to me. I've 'memorized' the action of reaching into my pocket for a handgun (muscle memory basically) so now I expect to successfully grab one, and killing another DC doesn't really mean anything to me, it's like shooting an inanimate object. It's like an art I've mastered. I think the only DCs I can't kill without some sort of immediate dream consequence now are DCs I've become attached to due to dream plot, or DCs representing someone really close to me IWL. Just an emotional thing.

Since the internet is anonymous, I'll admit that I can also be like ^ in some ways that I have a more sadistic side myself, and I actually see dreams as an outlet to let it out. I don't like bottling up the negative energy we're talking about, I need somewhere to release it. Obviously doing 'wrongful' activities like that in real life would be morally wrong, but lucid dreams would be the best place to do that kind of stuff. I'm not hurting living conscious beings, and not to mention there are no real consequences for your actions in the dreamworld, only consequences your own subconscious is giving you.

I know it sounds dickish but hey, they aren't real, whatever. I know--and respect--that some other people believe that your DCs represent an important part of your subconscious and killing them can be a very negative thing, but I just don't believe this personally. And that's alright, in my opinion--I'm very open-minded, and it's less important on what other people do in their dreams, and more important that you do what you want to do in your dreams, based on your own personal beliefs.

So, that's my answer, and my recommendation. It really goes down to what you believe in. Personally, I've experienced no trouble as of yet from killing DCs, but you don't have to take my word for it. Do what you feel is right in your heart. Respect your DCs, or don't.

That's the nice thing about lucid dreams. You have control. It's all up to you.

edit: Lol, just noticed Dreamer and I quoted the same topic. It's worth a read, since the subjects themselves are pretty similar (and not to mention, everyone has a lot of differing opinions on morality in LDs).

For a long time now, have created several places from which one is a book. Even had a dream family at some point, these little pests lol

All the interactions I've had with voolent DCs have been to send them love or try to reason with them. Just his last night, I was in a zombie apocalypse (it's been a recurring nightmare, but today is the first night I've faced it lucidly) and I found this DC who wasn't really a zombie, but she looked scary. I stood before her and calmly asked her why we were hurting each other and why we couldn't just get along. Her whole complexion changed and her eyes turned into beautiful bright blue eyes. All feelings of frustration and fear hanging in the air disappeared at once. It's worked similarly in other dreams, that's why I always do it like this.

I think that this will haunt you only if you let it haunt you. I for one have done things in dreams that I have later felt bad about but I don't let it affect me because I took it as a lesson for myself.

My experience with this is that I usually fight back, but it doesn't usually solve anything. It usually distracts me from doing something I may have wanted to. Lots of these fights for me seem pointless as me and the DC's can be equally matched, so I end up trying to reason verbally, with few very positive results.

Last night a DC wanted to attack me and I naturally decided to hug him just to prevent him from attacking me. Surprisingly, what happened was that he hugged back and I felt this intense flow of energy that got me feeling better as I woke. This encounter has been the best so far for me, so I hope to try it again.

I practice mindfulness as a meditation not so much as a daily practice. I will try and recognize my emotions during the day and see how that works.

CanisLucidus, thanks for sharing your experience. I have read your DJs and it was nice to see the contrast between positive/negative way of dealing with a situation. Is it because you recognized the bulky guy's anger before he came to confront you, that you were able to think clearly ?

Nice to hear the other side to this Maxis. As long as you don't have a negative feeling on the act of killing in dream it is ok, i guess. I had to justify my actions and it felt good to feel in control in the dream but I know that I could have dealt with it differently. Thanks for sharing.

These are subtle examples, I like it. Martakartus, love how feelings of frustration and fear disappeared. Rodrodrod, lol your name, but it is cool how DC responded accordingly and more by giving you positive energy.

Thanks everybody for replying and sharing your experience. I have learned a lot from all of your experiences. What I learned is self awareness and environmental awareness are important in dealing with hostile DC. Most people say sending love is better than violence. However, it all depends on the person, some people can resort to violence without any consequence. I know my subconscious won't forgive me for my actions though.

It's difficult to say, but I think that having a little bit of time to gather my wits was a big help. In situations like yours where you're under direct attack and trapped by a seemingly powerful DC, it can be hard to reason out a good course of action. Even though once you wake up you know that of course you had control the whole time and of course anything you believed is possible would have worked... in the heat of the moment, it's just so tough!

It takes a lot of practice I think. I know that I continue to work at it myself! :)
