Thread: What's the word for using real life sounds to recognize that it's just a dream world to becomelucid?

I know there's a word for it, but I don't remember what it is but its when you hear a common sound you're likely to hear in ambience in the environment that you sleep in, like footsteps one floor above you.In your dream, you realize that these sounds arent coming from the dream world, and that they're coming from reality, because you've had thoughts about this thing before that you make connections with and think about in the dream world.

It's EILD: externally induced lucid dream (not to confuse with EILD: electrical induced lucid dream, which uses only makes used of electronic devices).

Normally, the term is used when you have an outside source of sensory input that makes it into the dream, allowing you to use it as a cue to lucidity. If you just happen to recognize a random sound and become lucid without planning...I guess it could be considered an EILD too

There is a person (can't remember the name) that was working on EILD, but with vibrations...any way, I'm pretty sure if you dig around you can find several people experimenting with sounds (was it you Vagaltone?)

So thats what its called! cool! Ive had a few of these by accident but I forgot the name of the technique. Theyre pretty easy to do but it takes a while finding out all the querks that make it work, especially since when you're using sounds you have to find the perfect volume, otherwise it doesnt work and wakes you up.

Anyways, the first one, EILD is a pretty good method.

No matter what you do to induce, there are a lot of possibilities and it's quite flexible.

especially since when you're using sounds you have to find the perfect volume, otherwise it doesnt work and wakes you up.

It's even harder if you consider that your "neurosoup" influences your Sensory Threshold, making your chances even lower. The second aspect is dream integration: you can still incorporate the stimulus in your dream but indirectly: like when you put rose's perfume on your pillow and end up dreaming with a garden. This was studied by an individual some decades ago (he successfully managed to incubate stuff this way) whose name I can't remember.
La Berge studied this theme and found out that the easiest stimulus to integrate is light, but I think the subject is far from settled...Still, this is essentially why the big majority of EILD devices use light cues
