      Confusion about mantra

I am currently confused about mantras and when to use them. Right now I am doing the MILD technique and I'm not sure when I'm supposed to repeat my mantra. I know that you are supposed to repeat it before you fall asleep but I'm not sure when else. The tutorial just gave a couple of examples. Right now what I do is count my fingers for a reality check then say in my head depending if I'm I say "I am not dreaming, I want to do think while I am dreaming." (Keep in mind that I usually do this while I'm awake) ("I want to do this while I'm dreaming" is also my mantra) Other then that I am confused when I'm supposed to say it.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

The main purpose of a mantra (in this case) is to make your unconscious brain to remember to recognize when you are dreaming. To use a mantra right before falling asleep is of course the best time to do so, because then it stays fresh in your memory. Another good time to use a mantra can be when you are meditating. Clear your mind for any irrelevant thoughts, then start repeating your mantra inside your head. I found it best to synchronize the mantra with your breathing. Try to really focus on your mantra, and try not to let anything distract you.

Hope you get anything out of this, good luck

I'll second the "sync with breathing". That also requires a rather short mantra, at least for me. for WILD: what I do at the moment is visualize a number (i just count from 1 on) when I inhale, and then say "I will lucid dream" in my head upon exhaling. I try to put resolve behind this mantra, not only recite it. You still need to remain calm or you will not let your body fall back to sleep.

If I'm doing a mantra just before going to bed regularly in the evening it is basically the same, but more as a happy outlook of the things to come and to lull me to sleep. I do not try to stay focused then etc.

much RC, so mantra... such lucid

Are Mantras (and/or Affirmations) supposed to be said in your head or out loud? If out loud, do you whisper or talk normal?

That's up to you. When meditating it doesn't matter, do whatever makes you most comfortable and focused.
When doing it in the bed I always say it in my head, don't think I'll be falling asleep while talking out loud :p

I've just started getting more into mantras and they are powerful. They really get you to focus and make it easier to control your mind when you're asleep.

In my dreams my mantra starts to kick from no where, almost like a coach to get me to focus, to get control of my dream. Really cool stuff.

I say it only in my head, no speaking out loud. The wife already thinks I am whacked out of my mind, no need to reassure her
