On my case, DILDS seem to happen in a more dreamy, imaginative, a la Dali environment. And my WILDs can be more realistic and lifelike, in general.
Maybe this gives rise to the confusion between « out-of body-experiences » or «astral projection» and WILDs ?
yes...attempting WILD, brings more awareness into dreams as when we do it, we are still awake. more awareness means more realistic and detailed dreams.
IF you want to know whether it is an AP or just a typical LD, you can ask one of your family member to hide something and then you find it while you are out of body (or similar tests). I really had no chance to do it myself as i am still a novice. i really love to see what would happen in your case. :P

For the most part, WILDs are more vivid, since there is no gap in consciousness.
This is most likely the cause for the differences between your WILDs and DILDs.
I'd have to agree with the above. Plus, you should consider that when you WILD, you carry your original mood with you, but during a normal mood, you would likely have a different mood that when you where falling asleep. Mood effects the dream, I think.
I would think as said in the posts above that dreams would be more realistic when doing WILD.
Both in the way the dream "generates" or makes the actions happen and the general vividnes of your 5 else senses.
My DILDs can be as lucid and vivid as WILDs but still they have a more deep and bizarre content
One possible realization people may make from this thread is the fact that WILD may not necessarily result in a REM dream. It's not a very discussed topic (saw Sageous mentioning N-REM lding once or twice), but a percentage of N-REM dreams can't be distinguished from REM dreams, meaning you could be performing a WILD and end up in a lucid N-REM dream.
The relevance of this realization lies on the knowledge of N-REM dreaming: they are less bizarre and more "waking life" alike. Who knows, maybe many of our WILD actually start in N-REM :)
I've only WILDed once (with FILD) and it lasted about 5 seconds, so I can't comment too much on that. But I have noticed that DILDs that are False Awakenings (either beginning as one, or one happening shortly after becoming lucid) are far, far more vivid than ones that just keep on with the same dream scene, probably because one comes closer to waking awareness, while not actually waking up. So I'd think WILDs are more vivid for a similar reason, except in this case, you start with waking awareness and carry that into the dream.
I notice a difference. For me, the main thing is that I can fairly regularly incubate the dream scene that I enter with WILD. But with DILD I end up in whatever scene I was in. Consequently in WILD I tend to have better control, stability, and recall of waking thoughts.
On the other hand, when I become lucid in a DILD, I know it's a dream. But in a WILD, during the transition through hypnagogia, I can't always tell if I'm asleep or awake. I might be in my bed hallucinating or I may be dreaming of being in my bed. My WILDs tend to start with me falling through the bed but sometimes I am jerked out of bed or transported to a different bed. And since they are more stable and I am more able to think like I am awake, I could see how someone could confuse it for a non-dream phenomenon like OBE or AP. It seems quite real, mostly, and the fact that the dream starts in the same or similar scene as going to bed makes it seem like maybe you're not dreaming.
I'll have to stick with the mood interpretation. The whole transition, and the start of DILDs in the half of sleep, must generate different moods, right?
