Looked into mirror
I signed up to this forum after achieving to wake up in my dream. I've been reading a lot of techniques but thought I would post my trouble. In the dream, I walked into my parents kitchen. I havent lived at home for 4 years ( I'm 22) so this was strange. Then in the kitchen, there was a car parked with flames comming out of the windows. My dad seemed to be working on the car. In the kitchen! It was at that moment I became lucid. For some reason, I told myself to run to a room where I knew a mirror was hanging on the back of the door. I looked at myself and my face was so weird and mushy. Instantly, like a dramatic movie scene just took place, intense music plays and my face start swirling as I fade from the dream and wake up. I do not have questions about lucid techniques, but its seems impossible to stay awake in my dream once I realize I'm there. It is too dramatic and shocking.

If this was your first lucid dream, it's quite common to be surprised. Think of it this way: you probably spend many days and maybe weeks practicing to get to your first lucid dreaming. In that time, you were learning and developing new skills. Well now that you've achieved the first lucid dream, the learning doesn't end there. You will probably spend many of your first few lucid dreams still learning and developing new different skills.
The next skill you should practice is a stabilization routine. I also think it's good to make a list of tasks. When you become lucid, practice the stabilization routine. Then recall which task you want to try and go for it. This keeps you focused so you don't wander off and lose lucidity or wake up.

Try doing RCs. Look into the mirror every once in awhile if you want more dreams. If your face is normal then you are probably not dreaming. You can try make things positive in your dream if things aren't going well, for instance, that fire? You can like make it into something that'll help him on his job.
In your next LDs if you want to try it again and your dreams are fading away, try rubbing your hands together, your dreams will somewhat come back. Atleast from what I've heard people saying. Me, personally i've never LD before so I'm not sure.
Good luck on your next LD :)
