Thread: Lucid Dreaming Fiction/Films?

Inception

The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. It's a long haul so don't start it unless you like reading, but it's worth it if you do. A huge part of the series takes place in Tel'aran'rhiod, the "World of Dreams" -- they're lucid dreaming! If I remember correctly that doesn't really get going until book 2 or 3 though.

Yesterday I found this amazing book.
Please read the sample or buy it for less than $4 on amazon. 31 five stars reviews.
It's fiction but with a lot of real stuff about LD. Give it try and read at least the sample.

Vanilla Sky, Inception, for films

For books, The Chronicles of Amber, it's actually not at all about lucid dreaming, but it's very lucid-dream like and my favorite book series of all time. Its world is a reality inside a reality inside a reality that the princes of Amber can manipulate and control much as if it were a dream, and they treat it as if it were a dream.

Solipsism, I suppose, is where we have to begin—the
notion that nothing exists but the self, or, at least, that
we cannot truly be aware of anything but our own
existence and experience. I can find, somewhere, off in

There is a place where the shadows go mad. . . . When
you purposely push yourself through layer after layer of
Shadow, surrendering—again, purposely—a piece of
your understanding every step of the way, you come at

do this? In hope of an insight. I’d say, or a new game . .
. But when you come to this place, as we all have, you
realize that you have reached the limit of Shadow or the
end of yourself—synonymous terms, as we had always

I saw Vanilla Sky was mentioned, but don't forget the original 'Abre Los Ogos' aka Open your Eyes (1997). Personally I enjoyed the Tom Cruise remake (Vanilla Sky) but as far as films go (that I know of)
this one definitely delves the most into Lucid Dreaming. It's certainly a left - field movie but very enjoyable nonetheless.

Assuming you read the entire Wheel of Time series where should I start, I mean do I have to start with Book One in the Wheel of Time series or can I read 2 and 3 , is book 1 necessarily in later books. Will I miss a lot by skipping Book 1? For example since I'm huge into lucid dreaming will I miss anything important going straight too the lucid dream books, book 2and 4?

^^ And, I personally always felt the Amber books (especially the first three) were about lucid dreaming, in that Amber was waking life, and the shadows were all dreams. I suppose Plato aficionados would think differently, but Corwin's adventures sure seemed like LD's to me...

Then you get to the "true Amber" bit and it's like, mind = blown, lol.

Sounds amazing..I just wish there was more fiction ;-(

This is not a series dedicated to lucid dreaming at all, but i want to say that if you also like sci-fi, you should watch the Stargate-SG1 series. I was amazed on the number of episodes dedicated to lucid dreaming, the subconscious, meditation, ascension, OBE and similar subjects.

Yes. You might think it's completely unrelated to a subject like lucid dreaming, but not only it has some amazing dream control tips/explanations (pure coincidence ofc), but also gives some tips on awareness. I was delighted that when I discovered certain aspect of lucid dreams that some I would immediately remind myself of that series (yay to juvenile fantasy books )

That's a good idea. I should of added television to my topic name as well. Another related show is Fringe which I think is great. I recall they had episodes related to LDing. I'll try to find their episode names.

Never saw Dreamscape. I'm surprised I haven't seen it since I was around during the 90s and watched 80s films as well. Thanks for recommendation.

I bought the DVD on Ebay for .99USD.

It's a pre-CGI movie, so the effects are dated by today's standards, but it's still a fun movie with some good moments.

Wow you scored with that price!

I love CGI too, who doesn't? But people seem to forget they did the best with what they had. The lack of CGI gave them more time to delve deeper into plot, dialog, etc. in older films. A lot of today's films have all this great CGI but horrible plots, dialogue. Film directors today need to start to combine the two better then they are currently doing, and take film making to a new level.
