Hi Marcus, a good place to start is to choose an induction technique. Here are a few recommended ones: Induction Methods and Techniques

I'm a big fan of WILD techniques. I seem to have more control over my dreams when I use it. But you should definitely try out different ones and find out what works best for you. It's best to spend at least a week solid working with a particular technique instead of just trying all sorts of different things at one time, because a lot of times things take repeated efforts to get your brain in the right state to take advantage of them.

Since i goto school i use just the plain old DILD technique because its the only one i have time for (i dont have time to wake up at 2 am for WBTB or WILD). One tip is to always believe that thing you want to happen to your dream REALLY will happen (example: you want to fly; you tell yourself if you jump you WILL fly and you have to really believe in it)

Yeah, I definitely recommend DILD for a beginner, DILD is how I started lucid dreaming.
