Can I dream within a dream?

I want to know if it is possible to dream while being in a lucid dream. It is something I have wondered for a very long time. First of all is it even possible to properly sleep in a dream? Thanks guys!

      Technically no.
But you can dream about going to sleep and dream about having another dream, it's just those would just be story-lines in your original dream so technically the same dream. It would feel like you were having a dream-within-a-dream just that's not actually what it would be.

Yes you can have a dream within a dream, but you can also assume that it is an extension of the same dream.

This is what happens to me when I fall asleep in my dream. If my dream is long and I feel like I need to sleep I might simply fall asleep in my dream and wake up next morning in the same dream. If I am having fun and I simply need to change my dream to something random I can fall asleep in my dream and wake up in another dream with new story. However in the end i remember waking up only once, I do not remember waking up from extension of my dream and then waking up from the main dream, but you never know how it really happens. So falling asleep works more like a portal to next morning or new dream, but you can consider it as a part of your main dream.

I think it's just a glorified change of scene when people dream within their dreams.

It would definitely seem like a dream within a dream though

Hi GheeGhee, it is pretty cool to think of dreams within dreams. I personally don't believe you can actually have a dream when you sleep in a dream. For me, it's just the same dream, or maybe the next dream, where you simply think and know that you slept and are now awake inside another dream, because it is the current plot of the new dream scene. Let me try to explain:

      1 - You have a dream
2 - You go to sleep in the dream
3 - You wake up in the dream and *believe* you just had a different dream, complete with details. And since you are non-lucid, you are fully immersed in the current plot, and the current dream plot is where you supposedly had a dream.

Or if you get lucid, and try to sleep, I don't think you can have a deeper dream. I think you would only wake up in another dream (or continue the current on), and wake up non-lucid already. In this new dream you may also get lucid again, or you could also believe you just had a dream before that (without getting lucid). That's because if you let yourself sleep in the dream, you'd be letting go of your awareness and allowing yourself to drift off.

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.
