Question What was your inspiration to start lucid dreaming and your motivation to keep going?

Hi everyone, I've always wondered what made people interested in lucid dreaming. Did you learn the skill as a child, accidental lucid dream, or from an external source, for me it was inception and one random lucid dream before i knew they existed, like a movie or friends and family. Lucid dreaming has become an activity that has made me so much happier in life and I wish other people knew what they were missing out on. The incredible feelings such as flying, and creating amazing buildings and things got me interested, but finding myself by asking my subconscious is what made me keep going.
Dreams are a part of reality, sadly too many people ignore this fact.

      Interesting question
I just bumped into it randomly, when reading 9gag, there were a time when they really were on lucid dreaming, after that the next thing I realized is that it's already near 22:00 and I'm still reading about lucid dreaming
For inspiration, there are a lot of things I wanted to try out, one for example is having the force. It's just amazing that you can do whatever you want to with only thinking about it, like telekinesis, or destroying buildings, whatever, flying is also there.

I was very interested in experiencing things that are not possible to do in waking life when i found out about lucid dreaming(And still i am ), and then i got into transformation and all that, i realized how amazing it is. I was reading about persistent realms and adventures and was getting inspired even more. Then as i read about it more it changed my personal beliefs about waking and dreaming worlds, and so on, i will keep going.

As a teen or young adult, I used to love flying dreams. I told my father about this, and he had heard about lucid dreaming and bought me a book about it (EWOLD).

Now twenty years later I am returning to the hobby for very different reasons: it is more of a part of a self improvement effort, and I remembered this old hobby and how much better it made me feel, so I am here to rediscover that.

About four years ago, I was getting into self-hypnosis, testing various hypnosis mp3's. Then I came across some CD's by BMV featuring "Lucid Dreaming", which I had never heard about before. That got me started, and I read a book on LD, written by the fellow behind BMV (Marc VanDeKeere).

I formulated a hypothesis, that it should be possible to create a more powerful hypnosis, if it could be done from inside a dream, and the pursuit of that has kept me going. Waggoners book was a delight to read, because he focuses on exactly the same idea: communicating with the unconscious.

Up until half a year ago, I only studied the subject through reading books about it, and contemplating it. But since then, I started dream journaling, and the lucids have begun to appear. I'm hanging on for the long haul.

I saw a Vsauce video and he slipped in a little bit of info on lucid dreaming. I continued to try to learn because I'm a very imaginative person, and I'd love to do stuff like shoot fire from my hands, and float around in space. I flew once and it was really fun, though I had to make a watch that slowed me down because I couldn't do it on my own.

Ok mine is a little personal. There was this woman (married) who I thought I was in love with. But she was married and not likely to ever divorce. So I got to thinking maybe through hypnosis or something I could be with her virtually or in spirit. I wondered if there was some way to do that. I searched the net and quickly found about LDs. I bought EWOLD as that book kept cropping up. In 3 days I had my first LD. Funny thing...the awesome power of LDs has so overwhelmed me that I forgot about the girl. I guess i was just looking for some excitement in life...what I found in LDs has satisfied that longing.

I discovered lucid dreaming while reading a meditation book, but for some time i thought it was just a joke from a happy and cheerfull buddhist monk.
Soon, it became obvious to me the infinite potential of lucid dreaming.

" You can even meditate while sleeping or dreaming. As you fall asleep, you can either rest your mind in objectless meditation or gently rest your attention on the feeling of sleepiness.Alternatively, you can create an oportunity to turn your dreams into meditation experiences by reciting silently to yourself several times as you fall asleep, I will recognize my dreams,I will recognize my dreams,I will recognize my dreams.

Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, " The Joy of Living "
Check your memory, did any suprising event happpen ? does the present make sense ? visualize what you will do when lucid, and how. Reality check as reminder of your intention to lucid dream tonight. Sleep as good as you can; when going to sleep, relax and invite whatever comes with curiosity. Grab your dream journal immediately as you awake and write everything you can recall (if only when you wake up for good). Keep calm, positive and persistent, and don't forget to have fun along the way

To do stuff I cant physically do myself like walking or something deemed impossible in real life like flying. The ultimate freedom. Thats my inspiration and motivation.

Seriously? You must have a great relationship with your father, my would probably give me the DSM and an horoscope if I talked to him about lucid dreaming again

This was during a time in my life when I had a great relationship with my father. It was a brief time, and I wish it had lasted. The fault is not all one sided of course. He and I are very different in many ways, but this was not an issue. Although my father never tried LD himself from what I know. I think he just happened to hear or read about it, perhaps on NPR or a book review in a paper. I got lucky.

I've been having lucid dreams as a young boy (i guess around 10), but i did not know what it was and i thought everybody had this. Just many years after (only about 2 years ago) i knew that it had a name and that there was books, foruns, videos, techniques about that. Now i'm becoming much more interested to take lucid dreaming to a whole new level.
