It's a matter of what you feel comfortable with. Along with dream recall, you should write down your dreams in a Dream Journal, or wherever you feel comfortable. This will help with your recall, and will help keep your mind on dreaming.

When you are going to bed at night, simple things like keeping your mind on dreaming and repeating in your head "I will lucid dream tonight" or "I will remember my dreams tonight" should help you out.

Do some reality checks during the day and remind yourself in bed to do them while you are asleep.
