Are most people's RC's like this?

Okay, so whenever I was in a dream two nights ago, I started to perform a few RC's. I looked at my hands, and it was all messed up, so I became lucid. I still did some more RC's after that to make sure, and found a recurring theme. Whenever I look at a clock, text, or phone, I have to stare at it for a good 5 seconds before it shows signs of not being real. I was talking to a person on Skype who is into LDing too, and they said theirs show signs of not being real instantaneously. My sister who also has LDs, said hers were instantaneous too..Are my RC's the only ones who are like this?

I think changing objects or texts can vary during dreams, including LDs. On the one hand if a text changes too quickly, you will know you are lucid faster. On the other hand if you are already lucid and objects shift too much, this may mean lower dream stability. So it really depends on the person and on the dream as well.

It varies. Sometimes the brain is actively trying to prevent you to become lucid. One of the most common examples of this are Dream characters that insist with you that you are not dreaming, often trying to distract you with other things or convincing you there is a plausible explanation for the irregularities within the dream.

Other examples are the one you just described: things take a few seconds to "disintegrate" into illogical forms. I had this problem often as a beginner, but I never had problems with it because I got used to make several RC's and to be extremely suspicious once I had the urge to do one. In your case, you just need to keep doubting until the last instant, whether that means waiting while staring deeply into a clock/text, or performing several reality checks. Your dreams are your identity, so don't worry when other people tell you things that contradict what happens with you: go with your guts, because it's your world

Wow! In my lucid dream two nights ago, I was in the car with my dad and I was about to do a RC, when he said "No son, don't. This is real life. No need for reality checks." And I did anyways, and I became lucid! I didn't know that was the reason though. Thanks!!!
