      Melatonin ?

I'm pretty new to this board and would just like to share my exerience with this supplement. I started taking 3mg an hour before bed to help me sleep, seeing how it was not addictive and little or no known side affects have been discovered. In addition to better sleeping, i noticed i was having clearer, more vivid dreams, something which i hadn't had much control over for most of my life. I've tried to do as much research on the supplement as possible and have discovered that it is still being reasearched itself. I cannot say that i have had "lucid dreams" because of it, but i went from a non-dreamer to a vivid-dreamer. Anybody else have similar experience?

Not myself. Although I do believe some people have tried it, if I'm right.

I've read through the thread and noted that only you seem to have shared your experience with it. It's good to know atleast one other person has experience "vivid" and more memorable dreams from taking this supplement. I'd also like to note that i've tried taking 6 mg, and even 3 mg when waking up after about 6 hours of sleep, with little or no noticable differences. It's pretty safe to say that 3 mg (or less) is all you need to achieve the desired affects. I've also noticed that i often wake up about 6 hours into sleep, clear and dead awake, usually this occurs at about 3-5 in the morninig, so i'm encouraged to go back to sleep. Have you noticed a disruption in your sleeping patern from this?

I'm kindof afraid to take any dietary supplement that hasn't had extensive research put in to it. Seems too risky. Remember the big ephedra craze? Look what happened to those people.

melatonin has been studied for quite some time, not by the FDA though, not like I trust them anyways...
I also use melatonin, there are several threads here regarding it if you do a search there is alot of good info on it.

Its been shown that there are no long term side effects, also a study was done where people took upwards of 1200% of the normal dosage with no side effects.

It does effect your mood, your sleeping habits and yes vividness of your dreams too. =)

I work nights, its a great help to me as I can actually get restfull sleep thats chock full of good dreams =)

If faced with a big truckload of the stuff for free, and normal LD'ing, I'd take the normal LD'ing. Because then that'll be devolping your talent for LD'ing without the help of other things.

It's like weightlifting. You can weightlift with feathers, and you would be weightlifting, but you wouldn't be devolping your skill.[/b]

The only thing I have noticed is that I wake up at 5a.m, which is about 7 hours into sleep with my mind totally active and clear. I have been using this time to practice WILD.

It seems to work for me. Also, I've noticed that I am happier and more carefree lately, but that could also be due to my dreaming and all my new friends.

I don't really trust upon first hand accounts for my research. Can you provide any links to what you have found?

This links mentions developing a tolerance to melatonin.

      3) We still don't know the long-term effects on the immune and hormonal systems of chronic melatonin use. Also, high doses of melatonin used regularly could possibly inhibit sex drive. [/b]

There's a good amount of research info done on rats / humans, nothing extreme, but still alot of indeciciveness.

I've also heard that it's only available by perscription in australia.

I dont know if this tread is dead already, but I will post anyway.

I've been using melatoning for over a month now, and I can say - it rox!

It's puts you to sleep easily, allows you to see extremely vivid dreams, and doesnt affect your ability to LD.

I've found 3 mg to be the most effective dose.

I saw melatonin for sale in big supermarkets (they dont ask for ID), and I guess you can buy it from CVS.

lol, I replied in a wrong tread... too many links

I am with you Ev, works great, I bought my second bottle a couple of weeks ago(a big one this time).

Only problem is if you have had a few drinks too soon before bed.

The vivid dreams persist, but no lucidity, for me at least.

Im thinking about buying some melatonin, is there anything else besides alcohol that it shouldnt be taken with? can it be taken together with 5-htp aswell or is that just being silly?
