Do Lucid Dreams Ever Start Feeling Real?

After 40 or so lucids, all of them DILDs, I have not experienced the same level of presence of mind in a dream as in waking life. Even though I know I am dreaming and can interact with my dream world it feels as if some weird layer of gel is draped over my consciousness, if that makes any sense. Everything is hazy, not sharp like in waking life.

I guess I'm trying to say that my DILDs do not feel very real to me.

Has anyone else noticed this? Is it only a step in the process of getting better at lucid dreaming? Are WILDs the same way or are they typically more real feeling?

Idk, some of my FA experiences have been so ashtonisingly real i couldnt of been able to recognize if im dreaming or not. Even my RCs attend to fail while im in this state. Some of my WILDs have been little more clear than usual DILDs , but yeah it has that certain feeling in them... probably the feeling of the knowledge that it isnt real... or is it?

How long have you been lucid dreaming? Maybe it is something that is gradually overcome.

It also may be something you personally need to overcome. I've had a couple dozen Lucids and most of them have been very clear. Its my regular dreams that have me feeling hazy sometimes. I'm curious as to why your lucids happen this way. Maybe you're holding back for some reason. How long is your average lucid? Are your Lucids long enough so that you can try to focus on clearing up the Dream?

Try WILD. My mind feels so much clearer in them that I completely stopped working on DILD and focus exclusively on WILD.

Wow! I'd say it can be quite the other way around for me, the LD would feel more real than waking life. Perhaps because in waking life I don't pay that much attention (which I should be doing!) to my surroundings. Instead, I just pass through life thinking and thinking. :? In LDs all my concentration is there at whatever is in front of me, though I am often distracted by DCs and the scene. I don't have any experience with WILD yet, most of my LDs have been DILDs, and a few were DEILDs. I've had quite a number of LDs since I can remember, but it wasn't until I started to get more serious about it that my perception has really improved to new levels.

To answer your question, yes, I think that perception improves with time, but you have to be active about it. Quantity isn't the only thing that matters. You must actively learn in the LD, learn to stabilize, learn by finding how things work for yourself. Be creative about it. Shout "I want to stabilize" or whatever it is you want to accomplish. Learning to stabilize the dream makes the dream much more concrete, much more real, just like in real life. It is a skill that is learned by practicing, a lot. You can never get enough of doing it. Otherwise, you just have lucids, put it down in the journal, and be happy with the count. Which is something I did for years, I had no idea what to do, just have LD and write it down. Having goals in LD helps, and it all starts with the conscious effort to stabilize, this the basis, from it, you will notice gradual changes, this happens very slowly, but it is worth the effort. :boogie:

I'm only a beginner with very little experience, so I'm not commenting from a position of authority here. But of the few LDs I've had, 2 have been what I think could be accurately called 'hyper-real' (the others were more weird, short-lived or closer to OOBEs).

What I mena is that I was amazed by the clarity and vividness of the dreamscape, it was noticably different to my 'normal' dreams. Indeed, one was so utterly real that I was scared after waking that I could now no longer tell whether I was dreaming or not!

I'm not sure why this one LD was so real, but yes, I truly think that it's possible for dreams to be as vivid as 'real' life.

Lucid dreams do in fact feel real, even above so at times, just some people have more need to stabilize than others, some of my stable lucid dreams were false awakenings that managed to create dreamscape that up to some point was very close to waking world in terms of accuracy. :zzz:
Also i had an DILD that was pretty much WILD from the dream, and it was just as vivid as my more stable WILDs, so answer is, DILDs can in fact be as realistic as WILDs, it's just matter of what clicks with you. The reason WILDs usually feel more vivid for most of people is because we regain awareness directly from waking state, if you can trigger your awareness in DILD in some way you can get it just as vivid and realistic. ;)
And yes, as others said, it does improve with time. :P

For me, it's something that occurs gradually. My first LD felt like a normal dream, but in my most recent one it felt just like reality. I can even remember saying "Wow, this looks just like reality..." and trying to phase my hand through a wall. Of course, it didn't work (I have trouble phasing through stuff), but it felt and looked just like the walls of my sister's room.

Personally, I do techniques which initiate lucid dreams in my body in my bedroom (by rolling "out" of my real body). Some people call this an out of body experience (but to me, OOBE and lucid dreaming is the same entity). Applying the correct stabilizing techinques will ALWAYS result in a perception which mirrors, or even supersedes everyday life. My technique is a form of DIELD derived from "School of out of body travel" which is found on these forums. My only advice is this: if you feel your lucid dreams are hazy like a regular dream, you are not lucid dreaming to your full potential and correct deepening techniques should be undergone. Only when the dream mirrors everyday realism will you benefit from them.

As a beginner most of my lucid dreams were blurry. In fact the moment I realised I was dreaming it seemed like all the light and colour became drained from the scene. I never understood the whole "more real than real life" phenomenon that people spoke about. A big problem I've always had is stabilizing and for a very long time I didn't know anything about stabilizing. I'd just get lucid and think "oh my god I'm dreaming. What do I wanna do?!" and I'd be so wrapped up in that the dream would rapidly collapse.

With more experience and a better understanding of how to stabilize (the tutorial Checker666 has linked you to is good) then yes, dreams do become more real over time. I'd be lying if I said I didn't get blurry lucids from time to time but the majority now are very real.

I think it is partly recall. I remember a few LDs where I was surprised at how real everything was, then I'd wake up and remember it being blurry
