What is your end turn goals for lucid dreaming?

(First off) goal*. The post edit wont let you change your title. Now,



Something I always think about, is what if one day I completely master lucid dreaming. I do plan to get there, but I'm so far at the moment. Where would that bring me? What would I do with it? It keeps me thinking for days, of all the endless potential brought by it. A lot of my idea's I've realized are absolutely unrealistic but interesting, no less. Lucid dreaming more and more often, I think has been helping me form realistic fun ideas. Better ideas, even. I've been talking to people I know about this and I thought I'd try to start a thread to get a bigger picture idea about what other people intend. If you had completely focused control over your lucid dreams consistantly, what would you do each time you went to sleep?

Maybe even; How? or Why?

Give it a thought. If you can think of some good ideas, write them down! I'm sure a lot of you already have things you work on in your head in good preparation.


Before I end the post I wanted to start off I guess, by saying what my favorite goal is.

Mine is to sit somewhere ordinary; and calmly feel my surrounding. I want to have a good amount of wind. The wind would have to be a little bit cold. Then I want it to become bright and allow me to see everything clearly. Maybe I'll be outside a building with some people, maybe a bus stop, or a trip to the mountains. Maybe the Grand Canyon or something, whatever. I'd want it to be as real as it could possible get, to resemble waking life. The more realistic they feel the better, right?

No one really knows since none has ever completely mastered Lucid Dreaming.

No one knows what we will be able to do if we achieve this.

Our mind is a place unknown for us, as we continue learning though, we will continue finding out more stuff we can do.

I'm sure by mastering he means that you can achieve lucidity by will every night and have long and stable dreams. I'd live a life in a different world every night, twice the amount of experiences until you die ftw!

I like the idea of going to different worlds. I don't want to go to the same place every night, but I want to go to a place constantly and have friends that I see there. Have an extremely long adventure and have a good time. :) lather rinse and repeat. Having different realms and having some people that can come to any of the realms with me, but most people would only stay in their realm. I have a bunch of rules for how this whole thing works and I am working on setting up a base that will be where I leave my items, friends, and teleportation devices to get to the other realms. So when I begin a LD I just have to go there and then decide what I feel like doing.

For me, i am thinking about living/going to some interesting worlds and having fun adventures, possibly some video game related worlds as well, plus also mastering transformation abilities. :D

I would like to re-visit a lot of places from very old lucid and non-lucid dreams I had long ago, and check out if things have changed (most probably) or not, then take back a lot of fresh ideas to work with during my waking life.

Try meditating while in a lucid state.
Not meditating on a particular subject, but on nothing.
Let your mind go blank. No thoughts, no emotions.
You will go to a place with no light whatsoever. Totally black. No vision. No hearing.
Just a very slight breeze on your face. You are aware that you are asleep. You are fully aware of your body, but you are not awake.
Very peacefull place to be, unless you are afraid of the dark.
Only managed this twice, but the experience is what you might call blissfull.

I do hope others have had this experience already, or I may sound like a nutter.

I'm sorry about that. I was using the word 'master' very liberally. I did actually just mean the ability to control when you have lucid dreams, and how you have lucid dream. To an ON DEMAND extent almost. lol. And wow. I'm definitely going to agree on the visiting other worlds deal. Then BrandonBoss's idea about having like... dream characters that would co-exist in designated places that could accompany you, F yeah.

I'm still trying to think of some good ones. Just throughing out, go ahead and post as many idea's as you'd like if they change. No need to stay at one, mine go through changes and phases all the time. Then the amount of feedback that'll come through, I'm sure after awhile of our collected ideas will help each other's evolve. Last thing, Phil. That sounds pretty sweet. I'm not afraid of the dark, but I do appreciate a good scene. I'd enjoy most of that, the meditating, in a quiet dim place. Very interesting idea though. Next time you lucid dream, maybe just sit down and close your eyes. The rest I'm pretty sure you've imagined and would come naturally. Maybe I'll give it a try.

I think I would use my unlimited lucid dreams on demand to redefine myself: first I would try out different personas and see who I like to be the most, and then once I found one that I liked a lot, I would choose in my dreams to become her, and in the process my waking self would hopefully become more like her because I would build good habits through my lucid dreams.

I don't know for sure yet, since it would require some self-experimentation, but I think my ideal dream self would have to be very self-assured and comfortable with herself; she would be less tired, have better memory, less likely to complain, a better listener, and less talkative and more concise (so that if she said something, each word would count), and less self-focused and more compassionate, and paying more attention to the world around her instead of to her iPhone or daydreaming. Did I mention that she would not have self-esteem issues? Lol

Sounds like something you should work out IWL. What I try to do is to try and change at least one big thing a month and try harder to be the person you want to be. So at the beginning of the month I go through my budget for the month, then go through what I wish to do this month with my time (goals). What one thing I want to change (this list is looooong, I am a flawed human. ;)). Then dream goals. This takes less time when you have everything set up.

I also would love to experiment with my mind and change things in waking life through the dream. I need more exp though.

Nerq, this is the question to ask. I have been pondering this myself in the last few days as well. Here, I have to agree with Savsal14, that we are full of unknown uncharted territories and who knows what we may learn and be able to do? I can only set some intermediate goals, because who knows what I will be when I get there (if I do get there). I have the feeling that there is a much deeper continuity to what we are, and I would like to get to explore this.

If I had to put it as an intermediate goal 1: expand self-knowledge. There were rare moments in few LDs, when I have come to touch upon the vague memory of a greater continuity, as if I am not a person, but the dust of some distant star that has been forever in the universe. I have tried to concentrate on this feeling to get some more info from it but it is very hard. Hopefully, that doesn't sound too crazy. This is a rather difficult way to extract knowledge from an LD. A more direct one would be through talking to DCs. Some of the conversations you have with DCs are full of unbelievable insights, knowledge about yourself and the world, you never suspected was there. I want to be able to recall those conversations better. Quite often, I have the feeling that I have learned something so great and important, yet can't recall a single word of my special dream conversations.

Finally, my intermediate dreamgoal2: Exploration and fun. I can never get enough of the beautiful sceneries that I have witnessed in dreams. There is so much more to see, and even mundane things can be extraordinary cool. While IRL you barely notice an object in a dream it can become a whole universe full of secrets. And exploring the human world doesn't have to be the end of the adventure. Learning to see the world through the eyes of an animal, or experiencing their life from an entirely different perspective. Finally, I am looking forward to being able to dream with others and sharing LD insights. Oh, I think I got carried away...:dreaming:

I've managed that state a couple times as well, it was really life changing for me. Just like you said, blissful, nothingness or emptiness. Kinda like a pure state.

My goal is to transcend suffering, and maintain longer periods of equanimity. So exploring my subconscious and interacting with my subconscious, and working on finding out the roots of my suffering, then dealing with it in an appropriate manner. I'm interested in pushing myself, I'd like to be able to master attaining lucid dreaming, or lucid state. I'd like to revisit the almost universal consciousness(it was more like a small group) experience I had awhile ago, aside from that IDK. Redefine my existence, not sure what that will mean, but I know what it doesn't mean.:)

My number 1 goal overall is to make my late night lucid dreams last and remain stable for around 45 minutes. But to answer about WHAT I would do in those 45 minutes is tricky because there are so many possibilities, the only limit is truly my imagination.
Perhaps after awhile I would attempt to become a god of my own little universe that I construct and maintain night after night. It would be difficult to remember most of the details obviously and I would have to accept that the universe would lack little details that ma have been there the nigth before but I'd try my best to keep it accurate (It would also be much smaller than a real universe for practicality xD). I may invent other rival Gods from time to time to battle and test my abilities against and ofcourse to reaffirm my position as the most powerful being in my universe xD.

Can i ask why stop at 45 minutes? It's pretty much possible to have lucid dreams that last much, much, much longer than that. :zzz:

Well, to be honest, I've never heard of a dream lasting anywhere beyond 50 minutes. And as far as I know, even the longest REM cycles don't last more than 60 - 70 minutes. (This is ignoring any theories on time dilation)
If I am wrong however, I would glady push my 45 minute goal to over 1 hour xD

I have had non-lucid dream that lasted roughly a week of dream time, and i became lucid for a while near the end of it, so i know it's possible. Dreams usually last much longer than REM cycles they happen in. ;)

Well, what your describing has to do with time dilation. Dream time dilation is a very controversial topic and it has never been proven to be real. That isn't to say it isn't, but for you to experience things in one night that you would experience in 1 week would require you brain to go to absolulte overdrive. Your brain would probably over heat trying to fire neurons at the speed you would need to experience that much stuff in such little time. And it's because of the controversial and unproven nature of dream time dilation that I specified that I wouldn't count it.
But who knows, maybe it's possible, but I doubt it.

I had an LD like that too. It is the craziest thing ever. It isn't like "oh the last ten minutes were fake" it is "the last two weeks were fake!"

Anyone watch Dallas and Dynasty TV series. My mom used to be an avid viewer when I was a kid, and I remember one season one of the actors who had left in a previous season wanted to come back, so they said that the entire season had been this character's wife's dream. :)

I'm reading most of your conversation about dreams altering your perseption of time. I've wondered this a lot. Sometimes I can imagine it happening, sometimes I can't really. I think that sometimes, my mind convinces me that so much time has gone by because of a stray thought that goes into my mind. Along with it might be a story in my dream that unfolds the feeling or just the a thought coming from the dark point of sleep where thoughts go by without you noticing them.

I'll think for some reason, "Oh my gosh, it feels like I've been sleeping for days." But, sometimes I'll remember a dream that supposedly took place over the line of two days, but throughout the days there were lots of blank spots in time. Or sometimes I just can't remember why I think that. It just feels like it. I think that sometimes, just an ambient thought of time dialation passes through our sleeping mind.

And basically, the sleeping mind allows the brain to experience thought to a greater intensity, with less control. But it can literally form the perceptions of things and happenings in front of your minds eye that decieves you of what's happening in real life. I would be interested to know if it were possible though. I'll keep an eye out.

In my mind it makes sense because of how fast or slow time flows at any given time. Now take away clocks and the sun (enter dream) and how fast does time "seem" to move? Time is relative to the person experiencing it.

I am not just going off of straight "facts" here. I have woken up after weeks of dreaming. In fact last night I had 2 weeks at one place (just woke up) and some peoples that I trust a lot (I am probably just too prone to trust people, but they seem legit) are able to dilate time in LDs. One at any time, the other it is more of an accident and he said he spent 2 years in his LD. He said that he didn't live through every moment, but he lived through enough that it had to be a looking time. He said that when he woke up in his real bed he was confused. Kind of crazy story.

Good luck on your look for it. It is definitely one of my long term goals.

The problem that we have here, not we in particular, but man today is that we still don't know what "time" is. Science has developed so fast in the last decades with all kinds of theories: relativity, multiple dimensions, string theory, quantum all trying to explain the nature of reality, all containing pieces of the truth, but we still can't for sure answer the most fundamental question "what is time"? Moreover, why do we perceive it going in only one direction, where physics tells us it can flow both ways. These are just important rhetorical Qs and I am not starting a discussion here. The only point I can really make is time is still a mystery and since dreaming is also a mystery, that is, we again have no solid proof if it is just in the brain, in another multiverse, an astral plane, etc., well then, anything is possible really, especially in dreams. We can only compare experiences, but after all, isn't science doing the same too, making general conclusions based on a limited number of experiments?

The challenge we have, is to be able to accept, that multiple contradictory statements can all be true. Like for example, that time here flows in one direction, and in dreams it could be flowing both ways. My rational mind says that's not possible, things are either black or white, but my dreaming mind couldn't care less. ;)

Having only recently started exploring LD, I guess I have some very straightforward goals:

1) Be able to use my dreams for emotional and psychological development and healing
2) Explore the limits of my consciousness
3) Increase my spiritual and mystical awareness
4) Have fun
5) See if it is possible to share dreams or affect someone else's dreams (already had an indication that this may be possible)
6) See if I can extend my conscious perception outside the confines of my physical body
7) Explore another part of life

You are not alone, this is a technique i am exploring and try perfect. I do lucid dreaming for about 10 years, and i have already all type of experience imaginable and inimaginable as well, and i have realize all i have done before was a total waste of my awareness on the dream lucid state. With this technique you set your mind totally free, and if you practice meditation regularly and focus in your chakras and prana energy currents in your body, if you correct distribute your body energy and let go of any emotions or karmic seeds, you can at least hope to feel extreme happiness, and extreme inner peace in yourself. You may as well try to connect to your inner God self your inner light, by practicing the Guru Yoga in the dream state, and be one with him.

I agree with everything that you say, except for the way it is said.
I try not to put a name to the energy in my body.
I do not put a name on 'any' beings I encounter.
The reason is because, every country seems to have many different versions of what the energy in your body is.
Some call it a soul, some call it your higher self. There are literally hundreds of different names for your inner self.
There are also so many problems in todays societies by putting a name to an almighty being eg - "GOD"
Even in christianity there are over 14 names for "GOD"
Lots of hate, and wars caused by people saying that their "GOD" is true, and any other way is wrong.
I do not use any terms for other beings or encounters of any kind.

SPIRIT
HIGHER SELF
DEVIL
GUIDES

None of these words, or many others belong on the human tongue, until we can all agree common names.
Then no arguements, or prejudice.
But that might be a long, long way off ?????????????????????

I think that meditating would require a lot of skill, even just the way I meditate, which is really just a higher level of concentration on one thing paired with imagination. Clearing your mind completely during a lucid seems like it would be awesome and a crazy awesome experience. :)

Its is an awareness beyond the normal dream state.
You are fully awake, and can hear what is going on in the waking world. If some noise occurs, you hear it.
But at the same time you are asleep. No sight, and no images.
The choice to take notice of noise is yours
The choice to stay asleep is also there.
If I had to put a name to it, I would call it "Limbo"
Neither here, nor there, but both at the same time.

I think my explanations are going a little potty again, so I will leave it at that.

Meditating in dreams does sound interesting to me. I've thought about temperarily meditating for better control, but I decided to not use up a dream for meditation alone. Because the way I see it, is dreaming is already close to what I try to accomplish in meditation. It's where all the influences of the outside world are hushed, and I'm alone to expound more into my raw thoughts. Thoughts that are actual being projected to me from my mind like a sweet form of visuaization. In a way, I feel like sleeping is a short hop into condensed directed thoughts. Or, meditation. When I'm in the dream, I find that the further realization of what is going on is like, more directed medition. So for that reason, I don't know if I would stay in one scene and meditate. More or less, I would try to keep a lingering thought process connected to what was going around me. Just a thoughtful view on it, so I can enjoy more of the experience of whatever my thoughts bring by me. What do you guys think?

Maybe, I'm not giving it enough credit. What do you guys get from dream meditation?

TiredPhil, I just wanted to take a minute to throw something your way. I'm not sure what the problem is that you were refering to about naming a "GOD". If there's 14 or 20 different names for something, I don't understand what problem that brings. Unless they are refering to an entirely different thing. I call food markets "grocery stores", while my wife calls them markets. I call sandals, "Slippers" and most other people call them sandals. It doen't negate the words people use, or conflict with them at all. The soul, higher self, chakra, karma were all used while refering to a specific topic. But with more investigation you'll find that relating them to each other is like relating penut butter, to the chair I'm sitting in.

It's hard to explain to people now days. Because humanism and materialism are being pushed into the envelope and media so much now. Christianity is not what causes war, hate, prejudice or any kind of conflict between people in the past. It has never caused that in the past. There are so many psuedo Christan sects that flash the name "CHRISTIAN" now, and throughout the past few hundred years. So in present time, whenever the young upcoming minds encounter the topic of Christianity- they're shown the example of

!. People with signs saying "GOD HATES GAYS" "Abortion is murder!" "REPENT, BOW DOWN, THE END IS NEAR."
2. Renaissance Catholic crusaders burning innocent women for witchcraft. (Which had nothing to do with any teachings from a Christian Bible. It had to do with lust for power, and politics.
3. A rich pastor, with his $2,000 dollar suit, yelling about sinners and how they should give him their money.

The list goes on, but none of these are the correct actions of the christian teachings.

t's so easy to see why people think the way you do about Christians. Though the Bible only ever tries to explain that each individual is supposed to love one another. To not harm one another. To be understanding, compassionate, peaceful, patient and kind. There are some graphic depictions in the Bible of dark times and topics, but not to be offensive or frightening. But to be a caution, and an explanation of what things can result in, when people keep themselves in certain conditions.

The things that people do that don't have to do with those good attributes I meantioned before, do not represent the Bible. I'm a christian, and I'm not taking any offense to what you said. I just wanted to say, those few things. And also that the biblical soul has no relating grouns with energies, karma, inner self, higherself, etc. If you'd like to see for yourself that what I'm saying is correct, I could even mail you a Bible to go over. You'll see if you read it openly, that what you and most people presently think of christianity, is the exact opposite. The literal, exact opposite. That seems kind of fishy, and premediated. Don't you think so?

I hope you won't think so dimly of Christians with that explanation.

A single common name for the divine will not bring us closer together I believe because the only way that I can think of achieving a single name accepted by all would be through censorship and conquest and suppression of free speech. As a liberal Christian, I believe that what we need is tolerance. I say we will not have peace until people accept that we can have many names for God, call him Christ or Allah or any number of names and he loves us all no matter what we call him. There is a science fiction short story that suggests that the world will end once devout monks have written down all possible names of God. Go to sleep, TiredPhil, and if you dream of a new name, I hope you will not reject it for a change because there is nothing wrong with having many names as long as we all accept that our names are not the only right ones. That is what I believe.

Basically the details of what constitutes an existant God, are important. The word you verbally choose to use, isn't. Right on JoannaB.

I didn't quite understand what you mean about we can't have peace until everyone can accept we have many names for God. Are you talking about names? Or belief systems? Because belief systems can cancel each other out and cause conflict with one another. But names can't.

I actually believe it is a bit of both, names and belief systems. I believe that since we are human beings and not Gods and thus fallible and not all knowing, I think there is some truth to different religions' beliefs - Christians are not necessarily more right than Muslims, even though I am a Christian that is what I believe. I believe that while there are actually absolute values but because of different people's and circumstances they may appear relative, and while I do believe there is one God, but I think God may not necessarily judge us based on our religious denomination but rather how good a person we are and part of that good I think/hope is greater tolerance. I once took a Philosophy of Eastern Religions class in college, taught by a Romanian Orthodox professor whose favorite word was Namaste and who tried to teach us common themes throughout different religious practices and to instill in us awe and respect for different beliefs. one of our fellow students recounted that she had travelled to China and visited a Buddhist temple thee, where the monks upon finding out that she and her husband had no religion, first tried to convert them to Buddhism but as that did not work, the Buddhist monks tried to convert this American couple to Christianity! why? because they believed that any religion was better than no religion.

I do see where you're coming from. But the Bible says that each individual will be judged not by their denomination, profession, or their their acts, but by the acceptance of a relationship with the acts of Jesus. I don't want to... put my foot in my mouth and call you something that you're not. But when you said liberal christian, and explained what you did just now, it seems like you're belief system would fit more approprietly as Syncretism. Syncretism is a more modernly accepted belief system that merges multiple religions into a new singular system, generally to negate the opposition they bring towards one another. While I do sympathize with that, I don't quite understand the logic behind it. Christianity along with a large percentage of other religions teach the exact opposite of the whole idea of corresponding with each other. Not on the terms of "My religion leads to heaven, and yours doesn't." but they all depict a different past, present and future. Some eternal, some not. Conceptually, most of of them are not working up to a goal similar to the others. It seems like there are too many variables to mix more than one belief system, without creating another one entirely. Belief systems that state they encorperate Christianity with any other religion, would technically be an oxymoron.

The book says that everything in it is true, so either it's all taken into account, or that system doesn't function as truth. What do you think about that?

Ah, see it is not that I personally am trying to syncretize (?) different religions and adjust my own faith to them. I am not.

Personally I am Christian. And yes, of course there are contradictions in different religions. However, I believe that the Bible was written by human beings and even if it had not been it would still be interpretted by human beings with our limited capacity to understand, our limited lnowledge, our limited ability to see another's point of view. Essentially I believe that no denomination and no religion really gets it all right. Now personally I follow Christianity, because that is my faith, and my best understanding of what God wants us to do.

However, I believe only God is all knowing and God is probably looking at all the different religions and saying, you all cannot get along because you believe that you are right and the others are wrong, but only God knows what really is right, and all humans can do is have faith that our best understanding of God's will gleaned from religious texts and prayer/meditation and/or doctrine is in some way a close enough approximation to the Truth. However, I believe it is arrogant for humans to believe that they are more right than other faiths. It is of course likely that some faiths are much more right than others:

personally I believe that there is only one God and that he was incarnate as Christ and that he is among us as the Holy Spirit, and that the Bible is the closest humanly written and interpretted by humans understanding of a lot of truths. However, what if I am wrong?

I acknowledge that I can be wrong, and that the Buddhists may be more right than me on some key issues. I believe that every major faith has a kernel of truth, gets some things right and others wrong, and only God knows what, and I believe we will luckily be judged someday by a God who is all loving and all understanding and is not biased and thus will not hold it against us that we were confused and misguided, but rather will judge us based on effort - how much effort we put into being the best we could be given our limitations.

That is actually an easily understandable explanation. Doesn't matter how it sounds, explaining is to get your point across.

The way you explain it though sounds like the feelings I feel when losing an LD. I have all senses in both worlds and I have to try and choose the right one to go to or I just wake up. It would be interesting to choose that on purpose and might make it easier to choose the right body when trying to stay asleep. Sounds like a fun goal. I shall add it to my things to do. :)

I really like the idea of having some type of stable situation in my dreamworld. I got the idea (after years) but it came to me when I was playing Skyrim one day, I thought, I have so and so hours of play time on this game but yet I feel really attached to it. My dreamworld is there to explore and meet people in, if over time I could just get more and more powerful inside of my dreamworld, meeting interesting people on the way. Going through different quest type phases where you would discover the meaning behind different themes in your dreamworld.

I also like the idea of thinking of my dreamworld as a universe, but not just that, with different plains and places (heaven, hell, separate places within the same universe inaccessible without some type of teleportation) Then from there different planets and galaxies. There would be no limit to what you can discover, especially with your dreamguide or some other person that does it with you. You could be entertained every. Something happens and you can go seek out dream characters from past dreams to help you. I know this is far fetched and isn't really possible, but if I have some unobtainable goal that I can keep striving towards it can only get better.

More recently I thought of doing some type of huge battle/raid type things to inspire me. If I found some forgotten kingdom and had to help the people that lived there protect themselves from a massive orc raid with dragons and the whole deal. I'm sure that would give me some insight as to how I would like things to go in the future of my dreamworld.

Other than that stuff though, I think I'd be content just exploring what I already have in front of me. Taking the dream from where it starts and just figuring out what to do from there.

I also love the idea of not just having god powers, but more having some sort of restraints in certain dreams. You'll watch a movie with characters trying to survive a zombie apocalypse, I thought to myself, I could set up movie type things where I was the protagonist along with my dreamguide or something.

My final answer: I WANT TO TRY EVERYTHING! Discover, explore, have fun, meet interesting people.

So, I've decided on a new goal. I tried it out last night with minimum success. I'm going to try to gain control over the dialation of time that goes on while I dream. I want to have more time there, and I think I might possibly be on the right track to finding out how. I'll let you guys know more about what happen last night when I get back this evening. If you've ever had any experiences with time dialation while sleeping, do tell.

Anything ever happen like, you wake up feeling like you haven't slept at all even thought the night has gone by? Or have any of you stayed in a dream far longer than you felt that you should have?

Lately I have had the goal of creating an alter ego, namely myself as the opposite gender. I have started three related journals (one for dreams, another for ideas, and the third for fantasies), a sketchbook (to design exactly what I want to look like, my mannerisms, styles, body, ect.), and voice recorder (to learn falsetto talking and singing, simply so it feels natural to use the voice in a dream).

Lot's of ideas on what I can use this for, the most realistic is an animated series about my life in the dream world. Although I'm also working on astral projection, and non-invasive cyborg imagination recording.

I have this idea of a place I can continually return to. A never ending hallway with doors on either side leading off into infinity. Every door leads some where else - another building, another planet, another universe. Anywhere.
