Started a Dream Journal....dreamed I wrote in it

      Hi all,

This is my first post and last night was my first night on my journey to achieve lucid dreaming. I'd say I'm a moderately vivid dreamer and have had random lucid dreams about twice in the past four years or so. I just picked up 'Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming' and read the chapters for prepping to Lucid Dream.

So last night I went to bed at midnight. Set my alarm to wake me at 4:30. Loaded a dream journal app onto my iPad (Dreams) and had it open and ready by the bed. I had a fairly extensive and vivid dream that I remembered quite well when I woke up.

Only thing is, I dreamed that I wrote it down

I realized this about 5 times and kept thinking I was writing it down for real but I was still dreaming. When I finally did wake up my dream was gone. All I could remember to write down was that it took place in a big, rented house. I can only now remember that I once remembered something.

Is this common? Hopefully just beginner rockiness? I've recalled dreams easily before without trying to. Maybe I'm just trying too hard?

      Welcome to Dreamviews!

There is a thing called false awakening (FA). It's a regular dream, that start with you dreaming that you are waking up and going about your daily business. This includes writing in your DJ. And yes, it does happen.

There is a way to turn these FAs into lucid dreams. In waking life, do a reality check every time when you get up from the bed, when you write in DJ, or do anything that happens in these FAs or yours.

That way you will dopefully do RC in your FA and get lucid.

Have you ever practiced for an induction technique?

Here is our DV Wiki with tutorials.

And DV Academy, where you can read the latest WILD (sageous) tutorial, Dream yoga (sivason) tutorial and DILD tutorial. You can also join these classes, or any other class, like Beginner's class and General Lucid dreaming. Happy dreams

      Yo.
That's false awakening and it's indeed pretty common for lucid dreamers, but on a plus side they are very easily can be turned into lucid dream!
As gab said, do reality check(s) every time you wake up.
On related note i once had similar type of false awakening where i was recalling my previous dreams inside a dream using keywords, with only difference that it actually did helped me to recall more dreams after it.

      Thanks for the reply!

I just started the book and haven't done any of the induction techniques because it stressed pretty heavily that one should be recalling about one dream a night before moving on to the next step. Would it be premature to try lucid dreaming out the gate or is it important to get the recall down first?

I would say go for it)

There is a very good chance that you will remember your lucid, just because it's gonna be an awesome experience, so different from other dreams. I always wake up after my lucids and remember them. But you have to get up right away and write it down while you remember it. I know you can do it.

Two more dreams in my dream journal this morning! The last felt pretty long/had many parts. So I think I'm going to read up on some induction techniques today and start practicing noticing signs during the day.

So those are false awakenings? Sheesh, I've had at least four then! I thought moments like these would be excellent for DEILDs. I read that false-awakenings are a kind of "pre-lucid" moment, which can lead to lucid dreaming. I also read these occur when you're trying to become lucid. OP, I've done the same thing twice recently. In fact, it occurred early in the morning yesterday.

I woke up and didn't feel like writing in my dream journal, but I played back what I dreamt about before deciding to write in my journal. I ended up dreaming it all and then I woke up and realized I was dreaming again. I slipped back into my REM state again pretty quick and thought I was typing my journal instead and then I saved it. I woke up again!

I like to think of it as a way of practicing for DEILDs if nothing else.

Huh, I don't ever to RC's but maybe I will just do it when I wake up... I had a FA this morning... My sister opened my door to wake me up... A second later I actually did O_O. She did that since it was late.... 10:30...
If you see a strange typo in my post, blame my iPad for that.

Lucid dreamed last night! It was really cool...and random. I have no clue how I became aware but my memory of it starts when I'm actually thinking 'wait, this is a dream!' It wasn't even a question. Then I did some flying (I was in a mall).

It was too short though! Weird thing was, I thought the dream was over but I just 'woke up' in another dream where I wasn't aware. How about that? Haha.

Going to practice during daytime more to make this not just a random occurence!
