      Snapping to reality

So I had a weird sensation last night. Have you ever had anything like this? :

I heard about the SSILD technique last night. I thought I would give it a shot. I did like 8 SSILD cycles. Then I tried to induce WILD, don't know why, considering I hadn't even been asleep. This is when the weird stuff started happening. I don't particularry remember details about it, but I think I kind of snapped to sleep, but I felt like I didn't sleep. In that moment of sleep, or possible hypnaogenia (or whatever it's called) I felt a sensation of riding bike. I think I saw few pictures of me sitting on a bike, not sure, and then I felt a crashing sensation. It was sooo realistic, like I had really fell of a bike. And the sensation reached to real life. Suddenly my hands lifted up like panic reaction but then I noticed that, I was in my bed again, but I felt like I had been there all the time and not riding the bike in dream or whatever it was. And by that panic reaction thing I mean that my hands lifted up in real life, but it was kind of weird sensation too. So I felt like I had REM sleep right at start of sleep, but for only like 5 secs of it. Also I was sure time hadn't passed. I was sure of it. Then I just laid there in bed eyes closed, because I somehow thought that what if I'm in some hypnagonic state and I'm gonna see hallucinations so I just kept my eyes closed, until I fell back asleep. Also when I was laying in bed eyes closed it wasn't a dream, because I performed reality check about remembering what I did during the day and it was 100% accurate. Well that bike part was very weird. Anyone experienced the same

What you witnessed here is likely just hypnagognia, which is a very common bodily process which we all pass through as we fall asleep, usually however not consciously. It seems like you forgot that you were in bed and that you had temporarily lost full consciousness, considering that you do remember what happened. Dream snippets during hypnagognia are usually infused with tactile feelings and balance, sometimes when a dream is very realistic people will get a hypnic jerk (Where the dreamer moves his real life body by shock and wakes himself up).
The best advice I can give to not try WILD before sleep, the success rate is extremely low and not worth the effort it takes to achieve. Wbtb and before a nap are the ideal times to WILD.

Yeah, i am getting those hypnagogic 'minidreams' as well sometimes at the start of some of my WILD attempts, and i agree with dutchraptor on not trying to WILD before sleep, you either need to have extreme luck or some natural skill to be able to do that consistently.

The SSILD cycles put your mind and body into a trance-like condition. When you are in this kind of trance, many weird sensations can occur. What you described is one of them. Similar effect can also be created if you use active visualization during the trance. What you should have done was to move along with the sensations, for example, the sensation of riding a bike. Ride it mentally, don't stop! Falling is a good one too, that kind of motion can instantly snap you into a full-blown dream which is constructed from these fragments. Also please check out my latest SSILD tutorial on my blog: SSILD

That sounds like a NREM dream. In my experience, the difference is you aren't always paralyzed and you accidentally move and wake yourself up. It might just be really vivid HI though. Before LDing I found this happening when I was either in a strange place, napping, or someone was near me while falling asleep. I feel like it happens because you sleep lighter in places like this because you need to be aware of your surroundings when hunting, traveling, or bunking with someone. Some would say evolution made it this way, I would say designed that way. take your pick, this makes sense either way.

You however might have been more aware because of SSILD, which in my experience increases awareness all around. I however don't do it until i wake up in the middle of the night.

Hope this helps. Just my experience with the matter. Take it or leave it, it is good for me to write this stuff out so i can fully think through it.
