Light switch ruined my first extended lucid dream, (it worked when it wasn't suppose to)

before reading, I just want to make sure for those of you who don't know. Light switches in dreams usually never work for most people, for most they either never come on or come on after a short delay. they might even flicker a bit but they usually never work properly.

this would be my fourth lucid dream and it was my most fullfilling lucid dream yet. It was the highest layer of lucidity I ever been in and I got to do plenty of things but like my second lucid dream, I lost that lucidity which put me in a regular dream. I was going to try an transform my surroundings then I remembered one of my goals was to try out a light switch, I went into my house and tried turning on the living room lights and to my dissapointment, they came on just as they would in waking life. I looked dumbfounded and I began questioning if I was really awake.

Now at this point, the thinking part of my brain was probably already going back to sleep because as expected from dream light switches, the lights didin't work properly. The only thing it did was come on as soon as I flicked the switch, but the light never stayed on, it dimmed its self out soon after it lighted up. Still unfortunatly for me I was too far gone to even realize it. my subconscious qickly took over and made a few relatives apear out of nowhere. My mom came into the room and I remember saying in a pissed off voice " I thought I was dreaming, How could I be awake just now when a few seconds ago I was dreaming). And she replied saying (nope). then a few seconds later I completely forgot about it and then went on like I never just lucid dreamed. I shortly woke up later.

That sucks you were so close! Sometimes lights work for people in dreams which makes it an unreliable reality check. People say that lights don't work in dream but it really just depends person to person and dream to dream. Next time this happens, try to remember what I told you and try another reality check.

don't worry, I got to do a LOT of stuff before I tried out the light switch, this was the longest lucid dream I ever had thanks to stabilization methods. only thing is I didn't get to try out all my goals and I find lucid dreams harder to remember when they become normal dreams. the light switch still kinda lived up to it's reputation because it dimmed out as soon as it turned on, but my logical side of the brain was probably going back to sleep because I was way too suseptable at that point. Something I heard can happen when you don't stabilize awarness. I think when you stay in a lucid dream too long with out doing reality checks, your tend to think narrow mindedly about the lucid dream your in so if something doesn't go quite right with a reality check, you could easily fool yourself. So thats probaqbly what happend with me and makes sense, I mean cause I think I would have realized that the light didn't actually work when I saw it dim off. But I will take what you said into consideration, especially the reality checks because it seems so easy to fool yourself in a dream if you stop doing reality checks.
