Which could be a question for an extended essay?

Hey guys. I need to do an extended essay and I want it to do it about lucid dreaming. The essay must be around 4000 words and I should ask myself something that cannot be coppied from anywhere. I mean that the work must be original.

The thing is that I don't know what could be the question. I want to talk about lucid dreaming but as the teacer doesn't know about this, she tells me to do it about Freud or else, and I don't want. I prefer to talk about LaBerge instead of Freud (altough I could include Freud in a tiny part of my work).

I would need your help in developing a question that can last 4000 words and make me talk about lucid dreaming. Of course for this work I will have to do research so maybe if you had an idea whic needs research I could do it for you. Anyways, any idea that comes to your mind just post it, it would help me alot, even if it is simple.

The only questions I can think of are, "What is lucid dreaming?", "How do you lucid dream?", or "How does lucid dreaming work?". I'm not sure what other questions could allow you to write a lot about lucid dreaming. If you only wanted to write briefly of lucid dreaming though, you could ask, "Who was Stephen LaBerge?" or "What is dreaming?".

"Does lucid dreaming have any health benefits?" that should last you like 3k words with the whole beating nightmares, taking out traumas, fighting waking life problems, problem solving, stress killer and so on. Also do the "Is lucid dreaming beneficial for studying?" that could last the rest lol

Oreo, I think that your questions are very general. They should be for 20k words or more. But those ideas can be excellent for an introduction, so thank you.

Hukif, I like your idea and I think I will use it. If I do then I will post my work somewhere here. ;)

I think "What is Lucid Dreaming?" is the best question. I think the more general it is, the more you can right about it but... your teacher probably wants it more complicated right? That's kind of hard...you could do things like:

-What are the best techniques to achieve lucidity in dreams?
-Is it possible to control your dreams? (How can you control your dreams?)
-Is Inception a reality?

I don't know, just some idea off the top of my head. Hope you do great on the essay. Good luck :)

To go off Hukif's idea, there's a couple of clinical studies where lucid dreams were used to treat physical pain and PTSD. The results were promising, but I haven't found any other studies describing the use of lucid dreams in pain management. I haven't looked for how lucid dreaming could help PTSD, but I'm sure it'd be easier finding studies on that.

I'm also a little disappointed in the lack of detail in this booklet, but it gets the point across.

One more question : How long does it take to have your first lucid dream?
