Unhappy Where is my lucid dream?

You see, I had a dream in which I was in the old house watching TV I think. Ashley was sitting next to me on the couch, and I was on the end by the window. I stopped for a second. I looked at my hands. "One, two three, four, five, six, seven, eight. Okay now the other ha-wait a minute..." I stood up and looked at Ashley, "Am I dreaming?" She looked right at me and said, "Well, yes." I immediately remembered to rub my hands together to make the dream more vivid, which it did, and I constantly told myself I was dreaming as to not lose my lucidity.

Now this may seem all fine and dandy, but I'm not sure this was actually a lucid dream. At most, I'd say it was the least lucid one could ever be, or not lucid at all. I say this because I didn't remember it upon waking, and I wasn't "conscious" in the normal sense. It felt more like I was going through the motions, as if the dream was just telling me that, "Oh you usually look at your hands first, then you were supposed to rub them together, etc." Not to mention, the dream sequence ended as soon as I rubbed my hands together. It went straight into the next dream, and then I wasn't "lucid" in any sense. My biggest thing, though, is that I wasn't "thinking", but rather it felt more like the dream was doing the thinking for me, if that makes any sense.

So, would you mark this down as a lucid dream? Or no?
If I'm dreaming, how come I can do...THIS! *grows fourth arm*

If you aren't conciously thinking, it is not a lucid dream, but regular one.

I think it was a lucid because you somehow knew that you had to rub your hands and tell your self that you where lucid. Trust me, I had sort of the same exeperience as you with my first lucid. I think it's because you aren't used to have lucid dreams.

Well in that case, I'll say I might have been slightly lucid for like half a second, but I'm chalking this one up as a regular dream.

Does anyone know what might have went wrong? Whenever I do a reality check, I say things like, "If I have more or less than exactly 5 fingers on each hand, I am dreaming" so I should have questioned the reality of the dream on a more conscious level, but I was duped.

I think you are doing your RC's by habit and not because you are woundering if it's reality. Try to question your surroundings and try to remember what you did 10 mins ago, and from there look if it makes any sense. It's hard to really question the reality seriously in the beginning, but if you look back in your DJ then you might question why you didn't realise that it was a dream. And it's because you assumed that it was reality. I mean... maybe this is a dream... right?

Yeah.. for example don't do nose pinching RC just by pinching and letting it go. Think exactly why you can/can't breathe if you are holding your nose. Many months ago I was in a dream and I did this RC, it ended up something like... ok... im holding my nose and I can breathe, makes sense. *regular dream continues*
Also thinking about previous events helps a lot.

My usual routine is to count my fingers, then pinch my nose, then think of how I got to where I am, and what I'm going to do next, and why I'm doing what I'm doing. If there is a clock nearby I check the time, look away, look back. I usually tell myself, like with counting my fingers, that if I can breath when pinching my nose, can't remember how I got there, etc. then I have to be dreaming. I am questioning the reality, but am I doing it on a high enough level?

How often do you do this? Do you know your dreamsigns? Do you do a RC when you see them?

I'd say I do this about 10 times a day. I know my dream signs, and I do a reality check when I see them, however, I don't see some of them often, and the others would have me doing RC's every two seconds, which would turn it into a chore. So, I do reality checks whenever I think about them which is every hour or hour and a half.

It sounds like you had a moment or two of lucidity. Maybe you are not properly remembering the dream. Lucid dreams can be just as difficult to remember as normal dreams. The memories can fade and blend into other dreams you had that night. Keep working on your dream recall.

Might just be bad luck then, but remember that you don't have to remember your lucid for it to be lucid :/
