Thread: Coma, perfect time to WILD?

Just an odd idéa that came to my head.
I don't know much about coma and stuff like that but if I remember correctly you can be "awake" but not move or talk while being in coma, Wouldn't that be like SP? perfect for WILD:ing !

I'm guessing it depends on how fucked up you are. If you're sick or under severe physical pain, although you may not be aware of it, I'm guessing it wouldn't be too much of a good idea to go into SP, if you even can.

Sounds like it would work, but who would test that? I don't know anyone who would voluntarily go into a coma just to try to get a WILD.

Getting into comma is something terrible, because it means you are in great danger. I doubt you'd be worried about lucid dreaming if you have such a severe accident.

I would try it if I was in a coma. Even if I'm in danger and pain, I want something entertaining to do.

As far as I know, you're completely unconscious during a coma. You don't dream at all and those who are lucky enough to wake up from one don't remembering anything (sometimes they literally don't remember anything, they wake up with some form of amnesia). It's a lot like going under anesthetic for surgery; it might take 7 hours but when you wake up, all you remember is closing your eyes. There's nothing in between.

I believe Tara is correct. I don't think you dream during a coma. I don't know what kind of brain activity goes on while in a coma. But that would probably be the longest lucid if it was possible, you'd probably think you were awake lol. But I doubt you go into REM during a coma.

I don't believe you dream during a coma - even if you do, no one ever recalls dreaming about something after waking up from a coma. If you somehow were to WILD, it'd be pretty hard to remember!

Note the first paragraph, which mentions that a comatose person lacks a sleep-wake cycle, essential for lucid dreaming.

I just caught part of an interesting bit on NPR about anesthesiology. Unfortunately I only heard a little of it. The fascinating part was a Dr. stating that being "put to sleep" for an operation is actually being put into a coma. Obviously you don't remember the surgery afterwards, at least you are not supposed to. Therefore a medically induced coma is apparantly the same state.

If I got that right from my incomplete take on the interview, then a coma would definately not be a desirable state for our purposes.

Yeah, in a coma you don't really have any mental function. At least nothing which could produce any awareness.

Vegetative states are probably what you're looking for. Go crash your car in to a wall and hope for severe brain damage instead of coma.
