Theta waves make me sick...?!

Ok, so the first time I tried falling asleep to Theta binaural beats (about 3am), I got really sick to my stomach after about twenty minutes of just lying and listening. Got up, got a drink, took a huge dump, felt better after about half an hour. I though "maybe I just had to go to the bathroom really bad, or maybe I'm way too tired or stressed. That happens to me sometimes."

And then today, about an hour ago, I thought I'd take a nap listening to theta waves and see what happened. I never really fell asleep, and about twenty minutes in, I started feeling dizzy and sick to my stomach! So I turn the sounds off and go to the bathroom, my eyes are having a hard time focusing, and I'm starting to feel a little better sitting here typing and eating some casserole, but I still kind of feel car sick.

I'm fine with Delta and Alpha waves.

What on earth?

Psychological. Your brain naturally produces theta waves. It's impossible for it to make you sick.

Right. So here's what I'm wondering. Is it at all probable to think I was in a sort of REM state while still awake? The way I felt afterwards was severely carsick and my eyes were jittery.

I'm not sure if it's possible for someone to enter REM while awake since it mostly happens during sleep itself. Experiencing REM while awake would be the same as dreaming while awake and I'd find that a hard task to pull off. :P

I'd try your experiment several times with different conditions to see if you yield different results. You could even try using theta waves from other producers to see if you get different results from that.

I've experience something similar to this, but I wasn't listening to anything. As I'm falling asleep, I start feeling like I'm swinging back and forth, like in a hammock, or rocking like on a boat. And I start feeling incredibly ill. I've only been car sick once before in my life, and that's exactly what it feels like.

I've tried just opening my eyes, but even the assurance that I'm not moving doesn't stop me from feeling like I am or from feeling sick. I have to sit up and move a bit for it to go away.

This only happens very, very rarely, but I was about to create a thread to ask this question. This is a close enough topic that I figured I'd just keep it here.

SO! I have been dealing with this same sensation since a was young and finally figured out what it’s from!!!! I know it sounds crazy! But I have had so many experiences with this that I know exactly what it is…. It’s from being constipated!!!!!

When I tell drs my symptoms, of feeling like I’m on a circle spinning carnival ride when I close my eyes as I’m drifting off to sleep, they give me weird looks. But this symptom ONLY has occurred when my intestines are full from top to bottom! I have had X-rays taken showing how full my bowels are….. take some miralax or magnesium citrate (for faster results)
