Dream Guides - How important are they? Do you have one?

Recently, I have made it my top priority to find my dream guide. I have many LD's but have not consciously interacted with a guide of any sorts. Here are my questions to anyone who has a dream guide:

How important is your dream guide to you?
How has your guide proven useful?
What should I say to my guide once I meet them?
      - I plan on asking their name, if we have met before, if they are part of me, and if they will help me explore my dream world.

Last night I had a dream in which I was trying to remember words that were spoken to me previously but I couldn't remember. I hear a voice from behind me say, "here" and then they hold out a piece of paper with everything I wanted to remember written on it. I can only remember his hand handing me the paper.

Could this have been a guide? or more likely a DC or just part of my dream?

Another reason for this post is to further reinforce my goal of finding my guide.

Thank You all for posting and sharing your experiences.

Hmm I sort of used a dream guide. Months ago one of my lucid goals was to conjure patronus (Harry Potter) anyway I wasnt able to do it. So I imagened profesor Lupin (who taught Harry Potter to conjure patronus) teaching me to do it. Since then I can do it myself without problems.

So yes dream guides are usefull if you belive in them. - I belived Lupin could teach me spell so he did.

I cant futher answer your questions hope this helps.
      Excuse my english

i have a small question about dream guides
i mean.. are they chosen by your subconscious mind
or can you chose who your dream guide will be yourself?
i really hope so because there's one figure wich i think that she can handle the role quite admirably

Finding my dream guide (or spirit guide as I call it) is currently my top priority as well. I am still in the learning process of lucid dreaming and so far the things I've focused on are flying and just observing the amazing realism of the dream world. I always seemed to get sidetracked from my goals. Personally I think a spirit guide is either a) a special type of dream character that we expect to help us become lucid and teach us skills, ect. or b) an entirely separate, independent entity outside of our control that we do not understand the nature of. I think i've met mine three times so far. First time I was in a big battle and this silhouette appeared over me with light rays radiating from them and they helped me up after I fallen. Second time, they gave me my wallet and said I had dropped it. Third time, I had a long walk with them down a path and remember saying "I haven't seen you in so long." I still don't know what they look like but I think I am getting closer.

I think I will ask them similar questions as you stated. There is a really great thread by Hyu about his personal experiences with his spirit guide here: http://www.dreamviews.com/f11/recurr...er-dcs-106461/

Pretty much sums up everything about it.

And I am also posting this to farther reinforce my goal of this as well!

How important is your dream guide to you?
      Extremely!

How has your guide proven useful?
So far, I've encountered three dream guides...

My first one taught me about spirits/ghosts and such. In dreams, she would take me to haunted houses.
My second guide taught me about dreaming and the afterlife. He would often give me dreams related to dying... as in, I watched other people's deaths through their eyes.
My third guide (and newest) also taught me about dreaming. She's new though, and has only been around once, so we'll see what happens. So far, she was teaching me about heritage and ancestry. My other two guides are human, but my third guide takes the form of a horse. I'm really interested to hear about her lessons.

What should I say to my guide once I meet them?
Not sure... With my second guide, he pretty much just lets me explore what I want, so I suppose if there is something you want to learn from your guide, just ask them.

i mean.. are they chosen by your subconscious mind
or can you chose who your dream guide will be yourself?
I have a personal theory on this. I believe my DG is entirely my own subconscious. But I also believe that my subconscious portrays itself as an individual who I will relate to. In terms of my first two DG's they were both forms that I chose. The third one however, I wasn't expecting to meet, however, I understand why she is a horse (as it comes from a book series I really like)... so while I didn't consciously decide I wanted a 3rd DG, and she should be a horse... my SC knew that already and there she is.

A DG could be a best friend you never had, a teacher, and a partner in your adventures. Other people answered all the questions so thats all I'll say.

I haven't met a Dream Guide before, but then again I haven't had too many lucids. I'm not too sure about anything related to DGs, but I'd guess that they're just DCs who help you out. I didn't even know that DGs existed until I read people talking about them here - I've never experienced one in my own dreams.

i am starting to believe dream guides don't exist or only some people can get them, i have had two experiences with my "dream guide" the first one is in my DG online, and the second time he just sat their and was a wanker and didn't teach me anything. So i only have 10% faith that DG do exist
They say dreaming is dead, no one does it anymore.
It's not dead it's just that it's been forgotten, removed from our language.
Nobody teaches it so nobody knows it exists.
The dreamer is banished to obscurity.
Well, I'm trying to change all that, and I hope you are too.
      By dreaming, every day.

Anything can happen in a dream. Just because he's a recurring dream character, does not mean he's your DG.

or b) an entirely separate, independent entity outside of our control that we do not understand the nature of.
Because of the nature of dreams, if you don't completely believe that you have control over something, you will not have control over it. Free your mind neo, you may be able to jump well, but you'll never get to the next roof while you still think they are out of your control. If you meet something that you KNOW you can control but are still unable to, then thats the first subjective evidence I could see for there being a seperate entity, however its not entirely substantial, because that is not the only explanation (or there could be extenuating circumstances) and there is still not enough supporting evidence.

As to the importance of any dream character, I believe that the importance they hold is as much as you give them. If a wise old man in your dream tells you that you should stop drinking, and you decide that he's right, then he was probably pretty important to you ... however if you decide that it doesn't matter if you drink, then he isn't very important and likely wont be memorable

You don't find your dream guide you make them. Dream guides are really useful when there is something that you are trying to do in a dream but your having problems so you make a dream guide so they can "show you how" and then it's not as hard to do.

I don't believe that they are some kind of being that helps you through crap. Dreams are dreams they are not real and they don't really mean anything. Theybare just fun. Especially when you go lucid. But thats just me.

I was always a dreamer, in childhood especially. People thought I was a little strange.-Charley pride

So if you create your spirit guide I would assume you could do this while lucid?
but may I ask...isnt there a way of "finding" your spirit guide per-say?

Dragon Egg -- Dragon -- Dream Guide

Then, I'd endow him with the ability to transform into a humanoid resembling me, with draconian elements.

I use the term draconian lightly.

I have contacted my guides. I refer to them as spirit guides instead. I seem to get a different one every time, although one is recurring. I ask them for insight when I have the chance and hopefully remember the answer.
This is what you can do to meet yours. The first step is to get lucid, which you said happens a lot for you anyway. After that say out loud, "I would like to speak to my dream guide". Someone or something should appear. I believe that they are real spiritual beings. Others believe that that are just a part of our subconscious.
