Did I WILD?
I had a lucid dream tonight (very strange but enjoyable) and when I awoke from it at roughly 5:30AM I tried going for a WILD. I lied down in a comfortable position, closed my eyes and began to wait.
After 5 or so minutes of waiting my nose began to itch and I had this INSANE urge to move my eyes. I kept still and a minute or so after that a darkness began to envelope the already dark interior of my eyes. My breathing suddenly skyrocketed from a quiet quick breath, to a long very noisy breath. My heart rate went up and I could feel and hear my heart pounding away. Then my entire body began to tingle slightly and warmth could be felt.
At this point I swallowed and the entire thing was broken, but I want to know. Was I experiencing the beginning of the "Switching Phase"?

Sounds to me like my expericnes when I enter sleep paralysis, so I can tell you this - you were so close to entering a lucid dream!
Your mind was simply afraid of what was happening - next time, try embrace it all you can. Also, dont be afraid to itch your nose, if you dont think about itching it, the paralysis clock wont be "reset".

What LabRat said.
Yea, the first few times, your mind will freak out. Kinda wierd how your mind can scare itself......
I've had a small number of WILDs. And, the first 3 times or so I was just about there when I chickened out. Then, I finally just beared through it.
For me, I first saw some soft color dots (soft, as in they kinda glowed and were fuzzy around the edges; not sharp). then, Pictures started to rotate around me(kinda hard to explain...they weren't very big, and they were a little ways away from me at the start). Then they started getting bigger and started rotating closer to me. Then, the slowed down and stopped, and the picture in front of me engulfed me, and i found myself in the place that I saw in the picture. Then, I was free to do what i wanted!
That is how my WILDs are. I had 2-3 of them like that. Other ones, I was a lot more tired, and experienced a false awakening after i went through SP. So you have to do a few reality checks even if you think you failed. I missed out on a few lucids because i though I had just failed, and then went back to sleep :(
Well, keep at it! You will eventually get it. I had my first successfull WILD 2-3 weeks after working on it.

Yeah, I would agree with the others that you were getting close to SP. And I have heard from many others that swallowing actually does not break their progress and that it is just a placebo that breaks it, so next time go ahead and swallow.

Well considering this was my first REAL attempt at a WILD, I'm pretty happy with the results.
Practice makes perfect as they say!
