Dreaming about dreaming, and being lucid in that dream?

      Hey everyone.

Am myself new to lucid dreaming, however I've become very interested in it lately. Last night I had a very strange experience, and I was wondering if anyone has experienced anything similiar.

Basically, before I went to bed I read a lot about lucid dreaming and the techniques to become lucid. So lucid dreaming was on my mind before I fell asleep. I had my laptop beside me so that I could write my dream down if I woke up. I set my alarm clock to aprox. 4 hours and 30 minutes into my sleep, and surely enough, I remembered my dream when it woke me up. I wrote it down too. I fell asleep right after and had another dream. I didn't bother writing this one down cause I was sure I'd remember it.

So I fell asleep once more. And guess what, I was in control of it. Before I fell asleep I was thinking about what I'd do if I became lucid. I never thought that I'd be lucid the first time, even without trying anything special. But to my suprise, I was in fact in control. I could make people appear and fly and all that. It was a bit hard and I didn't always get the perfect result, but it was close enough to what I thought about.

Now here's the strange part. I woke up several times during this dream... while I was still dreaming. After completely waking up, I realized that I had been waking up though still dreaming. I hadn't written anything down, that was a dream. I guess I was in a lucid dream, while dreaming.. in a dream. Safe to say this is all very confusing to me. I'm not even sure I had a lucid dream, though I was telling myself over and over again that I did when I finally woke up (for real). Is it even possible, to be dreaming inside a dream? I thought lucid was to be aware that you're dreaming. I was aware of that I was dreaming, when I was dreaming. When I woke up in my dream, I was convinced I wasn't dreaming. When in fact it was a dream. I'm not really sure what to think now, haha.

So, is this something not uncommon if you're thinking about lucid dreaming? Or was it just a random coincidence? Any comments are welcome!

PS: English isn't my first language, so I apologise for my small vocabulary.

It was a false awakening. A dream within a dream isn't (to my knowledge at the moment) possible, because if you fell asleep in a dream you wouldn't dream you were dreaming, the landscape would simply change or something when you close your eyes. What you had was very common, it happens to a lot of people. One way you can catch yourself from making the mistake of being fooled you're awake, is to reality check every time you wake up from a dream. I myself have never had a false awakening, but it's become a habit of mine to do a simple hand/nose check every time i wake up just in case.

      Congrats on the LD btw.

First thing, as your second language you have excellent english (much better than some people I know ). Anyway I believe you experienced a "False Awakening" I have experienced it a few times and it can be very confusing. Basically you are in a dream and you go lucid then whilst still in the dream you wake up. It is a very strange feeling and most people (like myself) fail to reailise they are still in a dream and are no longer lucid, without practising everytime they really wake up to do a reaility check. Congratilations on your first lucid dream by the way and welcome to dreamviews
