      Mantra's and MILD's don't seem to do anything for me.. Tips?

      I have tried using Mantra's and MILD for LD, but I never can. I remember when I was a kid and kept having this nightmare, I had it and when I woke up I immediately tried to go back to sleep and told myself I will have the nightmare again. I had it again, became lucid, woke up from the nightmare, and never had it again.

      So I know I can do it, but I have been unable to. When I try I tell myself stuff like: "I will lucid dream tonight" "I will do a RC" with no luck. Am I missing something?

      First off, have you checked out the MILD tutorial here on DV? The most important part is that when doing these mantras you aren't just telling yourself you'll become lucid. You need to honestly believe in yourself and every word you are saying, focusing solely on your intent to perform an RC and becoming aware within your dream. Are you keeping a dream journal and consistently doing RCs throughout the day? Not just performing them mechanically like looking at your hand and giving it a second look or checking the clock twice, you need to get into a mindset where you are truly questioning your reality. When observing any odd occurrences or dreamsigns in your waking life you need to really believe it's a possibility you could be dreaming.It's important to be relaxed and calm when repeating your mantras, it's also helpful to visualize a dream setting where you do an RC and become lucid. Focus on the sensation of becoming aware in your dream and the vividness of your surroundings. Make sure these thoughts are the last you have before falling asleep and don't let your mind wander. Hopefully some of this helps

      um... try a different technique?

      The evening hangs beneath the moon, a silver thread on darkened dune.
      With closing eyes and resting head; I know that sleep is coming soon.

      Upon my pillow, safe in bed,
      A thousand pictures fill my head,

      I cannot sleep , my mids aflight;
      and yet my limbs seems made of lead.

      This.

      Try WILD or WBTB or DILD. There's so many different ways. You just may not be able to use MILD. I know that personally the only techniques I can use are DILD and DEILD. For some reason my body won't let me use any others. It's different for every person; don't be afraid to experiment.

      Listen, anyone who has prospective memory can MILD. And who has that?oh right, just about everyone.

      My opinion is, MILD is something that needs to be built up. It won't work the first day, the second, and probably not the third, but I can promise you that with consistency it WILL start working.

      Let me give you an example, it might be lame but it's the best I can do right now, lol. Ever since my mom got her new job, she hasn't been around to make breakfast. So in the mornings I started to boil eggs for a quick snack. I told myself, "ok, I'll be back in fifteen minutes". But ofcourse I forgot about them and didn't remember until I heard egg shells cracking. (That's association by the way, it plays a big part in MILD, we need back up reminders to help us remember, nd that's what we use dream signs for in MILD.)

      Anyways, this went on for a few days. It wasn't until the second week that I would remember, "oh, the eggs" and return to them when they were finished boiling. So you see, that's what will happen in your dreams. In the beginning you'll wake up and think WTF happened, but in time you'll either spontaneously remember or you'll see a dream sign and think, "that's right! I'm dreaming!"

      And frankly, I don't know why people look at MILD like it's a noon or beginner technique. Laberge is an expert and it's what he used to produce lucid dreams at will. What's the deal?
      Lucid dreams, gotta love em.
