What you are describing sounds like a variation of the "mind-in-a-vat" idea and I don't think you're a "loony" at all. In fact I think it is possible.

That would be interesting! Tell me how it goes; I would love to hear updates on how it develops.

It sounds possibly dangerous if you become close with projection-friends, though.
